You can not make an alcoholic stop drinking. You can persuade, cajole, pray, demand, etc. but until the person makes the decision themselves that enough is enough, the same destructive and selfish behavior will continue unabated.

The guy should be in jail, and while spending a lengthy stint as a guest of the state, should be getting intimately acquainted with AA.

Yup. Took a wrecked Marauder to get a parent to stop. He stopped and the car was fixed. One of the best days of my life.

Unfortunately a person who is an addict to just about anything has to hit rock bottom, and they have to know they have.... Only from there can they rebuild, and regroup.
