IMHO not that it's an option but I think it's b.s. that the money is taxed. Everyone who bought their tickets already paid taxes on it.

Blah blah blah, I know no politics. But this falls in line with extortion, money or jail :D :run:

I heard today that the Lump Sum payment was $318 Million out of the $586 Million jackpot. That means that you get 54.2% and the IRS gets 45.8% ($268 Million).

That is still quite alot of money "after taxes". Enough to buy 9,086 Marauders at their original MSRP sticker of $35K. Enough to by 26,500 Marauders at a current estimated value of $12K each (more than the actual number produced).

I could survive on 328 Million dollars. I would keep the Marauder, and it would sit along side several other cars .. M5, CTS-V Wagon, immediately come to mind.

My wife, would still want her Accord, so she could get one for every day of the week.

Charlie,
If you count in all the 'faux' Marquis-rauders and hacked Marauder parts-CVs you might make 26,500!

Have to do the numbers again 'cause the jackpot is now up to $649 Million or so. ;) The IRS is licking its lips over their share. Someone has to pay for the Obama Christmas Vacation. :P

Just goes to show how poor the odds really are on these things - they have to sell a LOT of tickets to get it up that high!

But like they say, you have to pay to play. For that money you can get a lot of headers!

Actually, that is not taking taxes into account at all. That is the spread from taking the lump sum payment over the 20 year annuity. They use a steep discount to get there and it makes the lottery system more profitable.

The $318 million lump sum payment is still subject to state and federal tax, so drop the number by about another 42%.

The chances of winning the lottery do not change no matter how many tickets are sold.

If my math is correct, your chances of having a winning ticket are 1 in 249 million.

One last note, always take the annuity and not the cash payout.

You can sell the annuity in the market and get more than the cash payout.

There.....fixed it for ya!

And if you pass away, the annuity keeps being payed to your inheritors.....

No, I meant the odds of winning are obviously low because so many people have bought tickets to get the prize up that high, and still nobody has won :)
