Just wanting to know where the best place for headers is. I have only seen them once somewhere for over a $1000.00. Also, what would be the best performance chip to get

I'm planning on getting Alternative Auto chip this summer.
Several people on this board have installed the Kook's headers and report great results. Kook's has a forum on this board that you can check out. Logan, BillyGMan, and some others will probably weigh in on this one.

Kook's sells exclusively headers & exhaust systems, Reinhart automotive sells a ported/polished exhaust manifolds that have been jet hotted...

Just like Logan, FordNUT, TooManyFords, Constable, and a number of others, I also have the Kooks headers, and complete bolt-on exhaust system. A number of guys such as MartyO, Zack, and I believe MAC also, as well as others have chosen the Reinhart exhaust set-up which includes Reinhart's re-worked exhaust manifolds.
I prefer the Kooks headers which BTW are the only standard hi-perf headers that you'll find for the marauder so far. But that's not to say that the Reinhart exhaust system doesn't offer a performance gain either. Both systems do. I won't get into the reasons for my choice here since that will tend to cause a big debate which wouldn't be advantagous to the board(been there, done that).
BTW, those headers that you saw for $1,000 were also developed by Kooks, however you'll be better off getting them directly from Kooks since they are MUCH less, and have a smaller primary tube diameter which is better for Marauders that are NOT supercharged. I suggest that you call Nick at kooks if you have questions about their headers and complete exhaust package for the Marauder.

Just to add some clarification to my previous post, I stated that Kooks offers the only "standard" hi-Performance headers for the Marauder. What I mean by "standard" is that they have the traditional length Long-tube primary tubes.
There are other places I believe (Dennis Reinhart being one of them) that offer "shorty" headers which are prefered by some people (but not by me) however they aren't considered "standard" headers since they are "shorty" headers which hug the block a little bit(also called "Block Hugger" headers) which eases installation.

Love my Kooks setup, completely bolt on do-it-yourself setup designed for OUR cars.

oooops! yeah Barry, I forgot to mention you in my brief list of other Kooks customers. Sorry. I know there are others who I've overlooked also, as well as other Reinhart customers too...........what can I say? Old age I guess.......uh, I mean "middle" age.

I know this question will get me in trouble but I won't know till I ask. What are the performance differences if any between the "standard" headers and the "shorty" headers?

What are the performance differences if any between the "standard" headers and the "shorty" headers?Shouldn't be any 'trouble". There has been no, substantial proof of performance differences between the Kooks or the other header offerings. Specifically the SVO Shorties that I have on my car have helped pull me to 295 RWHP and 320 RWTQ. Others with the Kooks are getting similar numbers.

Todd,
Do your SVO shorties bolt up to the stock CATS?

No. I have the hi-flo CATS and the x-pipe from Dennis Reinhart.

besides, you wouldn't want to stay w/the stock cats if you're going w/any headers. The stock cats are restrictive, and there are four of them!!! You're better of going w/two hi-flow cats such as the Magnaflow ones that Kooks offers. I believe that Dennis Reinhart also offers the hi-flow cats too.

For what it's worth, I had a custom exhaust put behind my Kooks ceramic long tubes (which I got from Sean Hyland), with hi-flow cats that can be unbolted and replaced with straight pipe for "off road" use. I did this mainly because I wanted what I wanted without waiting for the aftermarket to catch up. I've done this with my car, which now has almost as much invested in performance upgrades as I paid for the car. Today, this is not necessary. My appreciation is that, with either Dennis' or Kooks full systems, you'll get most of the benefits of hi-flows without the custom exhaust expense. Frankly, if you're not looking to push 600-700 hp out your exhaust pipes, either of those systems will do just fine. :pimp:

So Jim, if you got yours from Sean Hyland, they must be the ones with larger primary tubes, right? So I guess you're the only one posting here with those particular headers. It would be interesting to see if any of the hp/tq numbers are significantly different from those of us with the smaller primary tubes.

At this point, it would be nigh impossible to figure out just exactly how much the headers contribute, with all the engine and trans mods that have been done. I can say I am pleased with them. :banana2:

I can tell you: On my MM, the Kooks headers produced a .55 second reduction in my ET as compared to the stock exhaust system. That's w/the entire Kooks bolt-on exhaust package including the 18" straight-thru design Magnaflow mufflers that they offer.

Did you have any clearance issues with yours? I know several of us with the smaller tubes had clearance problems with the steering shaft.
