Same here, free viper? I'd daily it.

The best explanation I've heard is that scrapyards like this are sent prototypes and non-vin'd test vehicles to be scrapped by the manufacturers..supposedly to keep their test mules from getting into competitor's hands.

Personally, I think it must have been valet parked by the same guy with the beast B.O. that stunk up Seinfeld's car. This was the only solution.

Thought those yards had to drain all the fluids out of cars...that poor thing was bleeding all over the place...:(

YES!!!! it didn''t look to be anything wrong, even with a blown motor it would be worth saving...:shake:

That was really depressing to watch. Why wouldn't they just sell it?

Who cares. After all the K-cars crammed at us. One chitty beat up Viper is nothing.

I think of it as payback.

Two things...

1. I refuse to watch this.

2. This is not the first one crushed, nor will it be the last.

Those K cars did suck. But they saved Chrysler. How and why a K car saved a huge corporation is a question for the ages.....

The K car saved Chrysler because everyone was complaining about gas prices and they were losing profits to the Japanese. The Japanese were in the game before the game started and the American car compaines were caught with their pants down.

Little econo boxes is what people wanted. Chrysler knew the market changed and changed with it.

I drove a Viper GTS for a couple days before I sold it. Have to say it was a pretty cool car.

I still like the first run the best with the actual side pipes...

I see these ever so often riding around and ALWAYS twist completely around in my seat to watch it go by...

I have to agree that the Viper is an amazing car and there must have been some unknown backstory as to why one would be scrapped like that. On the face of it it makes zero sense...

They are sexy beasts. But wtf was that custom airbrushing on the hood? Didn't seem right to have on a Viper

Tough to watch. the 1st 1 1/2 minutes that claw was hovering over it like a predator over its captured prey. Then when it was picked up it looked like a dog picking up his bone holding it in its mouth then dropping it. I guess I just gotta visualize something else instead of a road worthy looking Viper being toyed with and tore apart like it was a $50 Yugo :(

I stopped watching it. Once I saw the motor was still in it I was done.

And there was not much wrong with a couple k cars. I have owned and built a couple fast ones.

Sad to watch....why not part out the engine, rims & tires, suspension, etc....?

BTW: Speaking of K cars....I once had the extreme displeasure of driving a Dodge Aries K wagon!!

Hey, it was a company car and I didn't have any choice!

I hated that wretched turd so bad that I tried to kill it all the time.

Dodge had the balls to put a 2.6L 'HEMI' badge on the MF'er!!!:mad2:....and it was a Mitsubishi 4 banger no less!

I used to wind out the auto tranny equipped POS until it was wailing and was just about to hit second gear...then I would pop it into neutral, with the pedal still matted, over rev it, and then bang it back into gear.
It would bark the front tires LOUDLY as it hit 2nd gear!....LOL.

Amazingly, it took this abuse for about a year.
I then handed it down to a new salesman at the company and stepped up to a 305 V8....:shake:.....Chevy Caprice!
Shortly after getting the hand-me-down Aries K the new salesman reported that the entire transmission crapped the bed in the middle of DC traffic.

That defiantely was not the EPA approved way to scrap a car. I'll bet those guys are going to get a fine out af that. Usually when a car has to completely destroyed that way its either under a court order or at the request of the insurer.

Severl years ago there was a ship transporting brand new Nissans, including NSX's that lost rudder and listed over so far they thought it was going to capsize. It drifted all the way up to alaska before a salvage company decided to try and recover it. They got it and righted it and towed it to Portland or Seattle. Nissan decided they did not want the cars sold and did not want the parts in the used parts system. They said becuase of lability, but a few thousand brand new Nissan parts out there would cut into Nissans repair parts business.

Theres videos of the ship recovery and the scrapping of the cars. They had to drain all fluids, remove the AC stuff and pop the air bags. Then they went right into a crusher. It was an assembly line for several weeks.

Intersting viedos to watch.

I found out from the man that posted the video:

Reason behind the destruction of these cars..... The two that I had to destroy came from schools in the area's auto shops. Chrysler Corp removed these cars from schools across the country because 1 student supposedly stole one from a school and was killed in it. I don't know how true this stands but I can tell you that a rep from Chrysler was there to verify the destruction of this car and to make sure there was not a salvageable part left. I am unsure how many vipers are to be destroyed. I was told each state has a few or so
