So I posted this on cvn.net and only got on answer. Hoping some marauder guys can help out with this. This would be on my 05 crown vic sport.
Ok so im going to try to explain my issue as best as I can. My heater system works when I select any position but the only problem is that the vents are always active. If I select floor, it will activate but also the vent will activate as well. If I select defrost it will activate but vents would as well. If I select vent, it will activate and only vent would work(which is normal). Where should I look. I did a self test and no codes.
any idea guys?

1st question I gota ask: Have the Orings been replaced? Although this is not typical oring failure, usually just defrost will work. It's a good place to start. Cheep and EZ.

O-rings on your climate control unit.

I guess I will try the o-rings then and see if it solves the issue. Anything else I would need other then the o-rings like maybe silicone or something esle?

As far as the unit is concerned, the o-rings will be all you need.

ok, so just replaced all four O-rings. black ones were alittle crusty but didn't look all that bad. New O-rings and the problem is still there.
What next guys?

No ref the blend door issue, that causes either all heat, no heat all the time or erratic heat with a knocking noise from dash.
Sounds like the door that controls the vent select position is either stuck or the vacuum actuator is bad. I think they are the two silver 2" round ball things at the base of the AC box right behind the console guages. You can just see them when looking in from left or right footwells. The panel door vacuum motor has a blue line going to it. It has vaccum applied when selecting any position that requires air to come out the panel vents. No vaccum for floor/defrost/off positions
I think something may have fallen into the defrost duct on the dash and worked its way down to the panel door area and is blocking the panel door from fully closing.
If the actuator were bad it would act more like a no vaccum situation than what you have. Since the feedback to the EATC head is that all vacuum ports and electrical are working (no codes from EATC unit) and holding, it makes me think it is jam or stuck door.

How can I access this panel door?
Everytime I select a different position for heat I can hear it changing it. Its just the vents that are not stopping. I really wouldnt mind the vents running as all I would do is close the vents but the issue is that its heating up my after market head unit like crazy as well as my dash. If i keep my vents open then it wont be that bad. It heats up my radio to the point that I can not touch it. I really dont use the vents in the summer as I only apply heat to the floor or def. Vents are used for A/C which is working with out issues.
So where to access this door? any pics?
