View Full Version : Got pulled over last night

Wasn't in a good mood particularly (rejected by a college friend, oh the college woes) so coming out of the apartment complex I put too much gas into it and screeched the tires. I kept going and maybe a minute later I see an escape pull up behind me and toss up lights. I pull over knowing firmly in my head that I saw this cop behind the gated complex wall so there was no way he physically saw or recorded me, he just picked the fastest looking/sounding car to pull over going that direction. He gave me a warning and my driving record remains clean despite a momentary lapse in judgement that could have ended up much worse (IE Marauder + wall).

Yea...I killed a '69 firebird 400 motor that way... She wasn't worth the new motor I had to install back in my youth....some lessons just can't be learned any other way....:)

I will say the one thing I love about the Marauder and by extension the Impala SS is that they are pretty damn stable. I had a 95 Firebird and I dreaded losing traction in that thing. The few times I did were either hilarious or catastrophically dangerous. The first was during my very first thunderstorm driving a rear wheel drive car. I was turning left at an intersection, hit a pothole I could not see because the water level masked it and starting spinning. I ended up in the right lane but facing the wrong way....right towards a Polk County Sheriff's deputy. He pulled me over in a covered area and came over chuckling. Luckily he understood me being new to high power, rear wheel driving in the rain so he didn't even write me a warning, just told me to be very careful in the rain and I listened. The other time I just screwed up and put her into a wall at 80mph, she slide like crazy with that light rear. I was out for a few minutes, no one stopped to help so I had to crawl out of the car, shimmy across a bridge barrier, wiggle my battery cable, shimmy back, start her up, and finally drive back home. I don't drive like that anymore. Sure I have my spirited moments but I keep it relatively civil or on a race track.

Be polite to the police and they will not write you up. Seems like you figured this out though.

I was moderately polite....I am Hispanic after all and he was super white....but he was an insufferable dick. He was saying things specifically because he knew it would piss me off but I just gave him my "WTF" face and laughed. Filed a formal complaint this morning with the Sheriff's department about his comments.

Last fall I got stuck behind a girl at 3:30 on Friday afternoon putting on makeup in the hammer lane doing 30mph in a 45. I rode behind her for 3 miles and finally got an opening to go around. I never crossed over 50mph. I pulled into a gas station up the street and all was cool till a cop pulled up next to me. He got out with a Frowl look on his face and asked me what the heck I was doing driving like that? I put a blank stare on told him what I mentioned above about the girl. He took my license and came back no hit. After about 3-4 min he came back and gave me my license and keeps telling me I'm too old to drive that way. He was trying to get a rise but I wouldn't let him. I just said yes sir and then he started on me about my window tint. I pulled out my Prescription from my eye doctor and he just bowed his head and said slow down please! I said yes sir. Then he looked at me and said you know what? I actually heard you before I saw you and that car sounds damn good, stay safe!:D

Nice. Keep a cool head and file a complaint. He may not get canned today but if he acts that way to enough people AND they file complaints, he'll be out on his butt!
My brother had a '94 T/A....the thing was virtually undriveable on wet roads. Forget about snow or ice! Cool car though.

He won't lose his job, as a matter of fact, if your not getting complaints, your not doing your job.
You were "moderately polite" yet he's a dick? I can't wait to hear your next "I got pulled over" story. I thought every U.S. Citizen was an American, wtf does Hispanic have to do with it?

^^^Some people do treat people who look different then them (aka skin color) differently even if they are American. Just like some people treat people younger then them different then people more around their age.
I'm guessing by his comment and the fact he mentioned his Hispanic background that maybe the officer saying things playing on the fact? But I might be wrong because that is just a guess.

Cops shouldn't be receiving formal complaints for doing their job..no need to lose your professionalism over somebody squealing their tires. They should be receiving praise for helping out citizens in time of need, and going above and beyond their job description.

Be prepared to get pulled over a lot more often after filing a complaint. Your putting a target on yourself. Had that happen to a friend a few years ago. Best of luck!

Cops are people, too. Some are nice and some are dicks.
Having said that, I think it's unprofessional (and unacceptable) of an officer to be a dick to someone if that person is being polite to them.

Correct, a super Hispanic would have flame stickers, buick portholes in the rear fenders, a wing, and a fart can on their vehicle.

Well...this is awkward.
Turns out I was pulled over tonight but in another county by the Florida Highway Patrol. He told me I was going 74 in a 55 zone when I know I never did. When I get on the Polk Parkway I accelerate to 65, put the cruise control on (boring road full of bored cops) and just cruise until I get to the 55 zone. I saw the sign, and the cop (he was in front of the sign), so I shut off cruise control and decelerated to 55 by the time I got to the sign. Didn't think anything of it until I saw his stop lights come on. The conversation was incredibly minimal and no snarkiness. After he left I checked my OBDII android scanner and confirmed that I never exceeded 65 at any point since the car was turned on.

Now that sucks, speedometer needs to be calibrated maybe, or his radar gun needs calibration. Take it to court, and explain the situation.

And don't forget to show this thread to the judge, that way he will know your Hispanic and were clearly being profiled. I'd also file a complaint about the last officer that stopped you, just because....:flamer:

I'd bet on the speedometer. My experience tells me that the radar guns are rarely out of calibration THAT much .... at least in this area.
Whenever I have been stopped, the Officer normally starts the conversation with "Do you know how fast you were going?" I'll ask "What did the gun say?" It has always been within + or - 1 MPH in my incidents ...... not that THAT happens very often.
For a gun to be off 10 MPH is pretty rare I would think. Hell, he could guess closer than that.

seriously, if your speedo is off, you have a shop recalibrate it, and show proof of this to the judge, its been known to work on beating speeding tickets.....i read a book on it :P....i also have read about how to kill a mocking bird..

That May or may not work, it is the motor vehicle owners responsibility to maintain their vehicle, not the city, county, state etc.. If you have it checked for calibration and it is off, then it becomes the owners fault, I.e. You own the ticket.
As far as the speed, radar and laser has more range than your eyesight, chances are you were doing the reported 74 mph and at that point, he locked his radar/laser/vascar or what ever he was using for time and distance measurements that day.
Good luck fighting it, it's tough to beat a seasoned operator in court on a speed ticket.

Then that would mean I was doing 74mph in a 65mph zone and not 74mph in a 55mph zone as the officer ticketed me for. The cop was in front of the 55mph speed limit sign and I was decelerating before I was even close to it. He basically ticketed me for the wrong thing, something I could not have been guilty for even if my speedometer was 9mph off (in this case it would have to be 19mph off and my car to be several hundred feet past his car).

He actually didn't say anything other than, "You were going 74 in a 55 zone", "Give me your license and insurance information" and "Follow these instructions" then he walked off. Impersonal but not *******-ish.

Here's one for ya. I turned left in front of a cop car, that was sitting at a red light. Turned into his lane, got up to the speed limit, (45) and put the cruise control on. When his light turned green he flew up to my car and pulled me over. Comes up and says, license and ins.. I simply ask why I was pulling over, and he says he clocked me going 11 miles over the speed limit. I snapped! I told him I was going 46 in a 45, with my cruise on. He said, alright, I'll give you a ticket for 1 over, since you admitted it. When he came back to the car, He said he gave me a ticket for 56 in a 45. What! I asked to see the radar, and he said, No! I asked why not, and he says he paced me. WTF! Then he said, You gave yourself the ticket.
Well, I went to the police station before I went to court, and subpoenaed the audio and video from his car. It showed him going 60mph to catch up to me, and constantly gaining. There was never a pace! Plus the judge heard him say he clocked me, and then changed his story. Needless to say, the judge found me not guilty. Though he did reprimand me on my attitude towards the officer. He made me apologize to the officer. The cop wasn't happy.
I don't have a problem with the police, I don't have the worlds greatest record, so I've been pulled over a few to many times. I was usually guilty, and was nice as pie to them. But it pisses me off, when I'm not doing anything wrong, and you lie to me.
Oh yeah, I'm super white too!

Most stateys are dumb as a box of rocks. If you take it to court, the majority of them would have issues at trial as they don't even remember the incident a month later down the road..Something I learned with multiple serious speeding violations over the years.

We all have our stories, years ago I had to drive to MPLS from Chicago for an Important meeting so I'm in mid Wisc on I-94 NB running around about 85 MPH, 20 over the limit, back in the days of CB's. Though everything was OK when I got pulled over by a Wisc State Cop. OH a car with ILL plates in Wisc doing 20 over. When the Officer walked up to the car I asked him how he clocked me? He told me he shot me in the back from the down ramp. He asked me If I wanted to see the radar gun and I said no that it was probably correct. So after discussing running late for a meeting and out of the Blue as the officer was going to go back to his car (I MADE THE STUPID MISTAKE COMMENTING TO THE OFFICER HOW HARD I WAS GOONA HAVE TO RUN TO MAKE UP WITH THIS DELAY!!!!!!!!!) I sat there and though what a stupid comment that was!!!!!!!! Who makes these coments? The officer came back with a warning ticket for 8 over. I was shocked and he said he wrote it this was as he felt some else will get me down the road, also first time he's that excuse, lucky as I did push it harder and made my meeting!
Guy's it's a lose lose situation to give these guy's **** and some are ok guy's!
