Just an observation, but I find certain demographics involving the population of Marauder owners are very interesting. I don't mean to stereotype, but I do believe our population is perhaps older, more educated, perhaps more financially solvent, etc. I used to believe it was more Caucasian also, but I really don't know. I've never been to a large Marauder meet so my exposure is limited.

It all makes sense though, when you consider the cost of a new MM when they came out. I am sure this has been discussed in the past.

One of the most intriguing things is where we live. I'd love to see this represented in a density map. It is evident to me most Marauder owners live in the Southeast and the least number of owners live in the Northwest. I can't figure out why that is. It doesn't seem to be related to the cost of a new MM. Surprisingly also, there are a lot of Marauders in Hawaii. I really think this has to do with Hawaii Five O and with the fact that in Hawaii, police officers are allowed to drive a personal vehicle meeting certain requirements.

Here is an extract from the original Marauder profile back in October 2002 some 12 years ago.

I mentioned this in another post,I found it so here it is.

Do You Fit the Mercury Marauder Customer Profile?

The Marauder Customer
The 2003 Marauder appeals to the customer who wants an aggressive, fast vehicle. They are pro-American and like to live on the edge. Marauder provides them with a great deal of driving pleasure while still meeting their concerns for safety and security, operating costs, easy ingress/egress and value for the money. This customer may have wanted a Mustang Bullitt or Cobra but really needs the passenger space. This page represents a close look at the demographics, needs, expectations and overall mind-set of the target Marauder customer.

Key Demographics
The Target Marauder customer tends to fit within these averages:

Gender - 80-85% male
Income -$60-80k
College educated - 60%
Married - 65%
Average age - 45
Target Customer
Marauder's target customer:

Is a performance vehicle enthusiast and has good technical sense
Is likely to do extensive research on most of his purchases
Will have a strong opinion on what he wants
Has to be active, have fun and be engaged in life
Needs to be true to himself, takes pride and gives 100% in whatever he does
Craves excitement and exhilaration
Has a need for authenticity, integrity and dependability from people, products and services
The target customer also responds primarily to these Passion Points:

Love for cars
Need to set themselves apart
Attention to detail based on knowledge
Need for quality and assurance
Spending time with family and friends
Cost and the Customer
The typical Marauder customer is cost-conscious and is often of the following mind-set:

Willing to pay a premium for a vehicle but only if it resonates closely with "who he is"
Higher priced products driven solely by image offer no appeal to him
Marauder will be part of the household fleet, so image and power are not his only concerns --- it must also have the functionality to accommodate his everyday needs
Cost of ownership is a consideration --- dependability and reliability are important to him --- he expects quality from the product he buys
Aftermarket kits will likely be purchased and will be considered part of the Marauder purchase

Here's is an estimate based on population distribution ... Black numbers are the original production. Red numbers are estimates as of January 2014 (give or take).

^^What a great couple of posts! As I was reading the first one I was thinking about how much of that describes me an other MM owners I know. Those marketing guys were very good.

So what is your take on the geographical distribution of Marauders? Why does it lean SE so much? Or does it not? Does it match the country's population density?

Distribution is based on % of total US population. More people, more cars. Less people, less cars. It is probably reasonably accurate when dealing with a population of over 300 Million people. Obviously, there will be some variations due to the target demographics. Some states tend to have an older population, others may be more affluent, some may be better educated. But, on average, this map is probably close enough for our purposes.

I'm not in the Stereotype at all.

I got my first MM when I was 25. Had one since.

I do all of my own work. Most, (not all) pay others to do their work.

I get it. My gut tells me there there are many more Marauders in places like Florida than estimated in the map and a lot less Marauders in places like Washington State than estimated in the map.

How many in Saudi Arabia? The SA guys may know.

You are just smarter than most guys your age!

They didn't target me, obviously, but except for gender I guess I fit the profile pretty well. In any case, the Marauder fits my personality and my style ...rebel with a cause.

My Wife has always loved the Marauders. About once a week I'll hear it fire up in the morning and she'll take it to work instead of our Escape.

She's also auto-crossed it like a boss. You should see the looks a woman gets flinging around 4000lb+ of metal.

Actually, you do fit the Gender profile since 15-20% would be Female and 80-85% would be Male. Based on experience though, I wouldn't have put the Female population much above 10-15% from what I have seen.

So how many female MM owners hang out on this site?

My wife also enjoyed driving my MM. She said she noticed other drivers respect her more. She also said people seem a bit surprised when they see a woman on such a car.

Only a handful of us that I know of, own our own Marauders and are active on the site, but I'm sure there are more that I've never met. Our husbands also own Marauders in most cases.
Here are The Few, The Proud ....and it's a pretty short list.

MM03MOK, an MM.net. owner and a true Marauder aficionado owns a SB

Ladyhawke owns a JPB Kenny Brown Marauder

Hammerdown owns a DTR

My_roder in Iowa owns a JPB (but I haven't seen her post recently. She has 250 K on it last time we communicated!)

Mrs. Gryphonus owns a SB IIRC

Ms.D owns a SB

SCCheesehead's wife Terry prolly has his DBP so that gives the Ladies Club a full set colorwise.

That's pretty cool! Any lady owning a Marauder is worthy of admiration. I showed my wife your post and she said "what color are you going to get me?" I said I think you are a silver lady. She disagreed. She likes the black MMs.

I also didn't hit the stereotype. Was lucky enough to acquire mine almost new at the age of 18 back in '06. Seems like more kids can afford them now so the stereotype of old folks car might be gone.

Here I is. I don't know where they got the NYS numbers from as they were few and far between. Maybe 1-2 per county in the area I lived. I've seen more here in a few weeks than I ever saw in 9 years of NYS ownership. I fit the profile when I bought mine. I actually wanted a new Mustang, but refused to pay $5,000 over MSRP for one.

Here in St Louis, we have a diverse crowd from old to young and across our color demographic. My wife is why I bought mine. I had a '98 red Crown Vic with leather interior that I liked. Wife hated it. When MM publicity came out, she said buy the MM. I said it was the same car as the red Crown Vic. She said it was not even close, the MM 'look' in black is what she liked. She drives it as hard as she wants. Loves to beat the chevy guys. She won't ever post on this site, just not interesting to her.

If I understood correctly, the numbers posted were only a certain percentage of population. In other words, the numbers provided would be right if all MMs were evenly distributed according to population.

That ^^^^ is correct after deducting some that went to Canada, US Territories, and Other countries. Across the 50 US states + District of Columbia it works out to about 1 MM per 29,500 people.

Right here. Got mine when I was 16 brand new.

I do fit the demographic at all, but those are good points.

A common known fact about Marauder owners in my area is they are drug dealers. Outside of the city is another story. I am not a drug dealer, but I get pulled over sometimes because they think I am.

I hadn't come across this stereotype, but I can see gangsters and drug dealers wanting to own a Marauder. That sucks. It could give all of us a bad name very quickly.

Five that I know of somehow wound up in my hometown of 18-20K.

One is driven by a kid probably under age 20 who works at BW3s, another is driven by a USMC vet in his 40s, a third very clean black 300B is driven by a 50ish woman who works at a clothes store, and a fourth has a wheelchair rack on the back of it-- owned by a friendly elderly couple. Then there's mine, driven by a 20 something career landscaper/pesticide professional.

The only consistency in our little area is that there is no consistency among owner demographics. We all love our cars though.

Man Bluerauder...... some good stuff there. Most 20somethings say "nice rims on that vic". I will now nod and say "thank you, but you don't fit the majority demographic so I'm not going to further explain my vehicle" Ha JK, but WINNING

I think these demographics were much closer to correct when the car was new. They are near meaningless now.

Agreed. It's a car for those who prefer the road less traveled, aren't impressed by what the masses think and certainly don't have any interest in driving what the masses drive....and are comfortable being different.

The Blackbird replaced a '94 Thunderbird SuperCoupe...another car no one knew anything about. I was always having people say "that's got a turbo on it, right?"... :shake:

I used to drive an '89 T-bird SC 5 speed. They were not bad cars. I did notice the rear suspension was not good at keeping the wheels pointed straight under power. Really should have had a toe link like the Corvette.

The Marauder live axle 5-link does a much better job at putting the power down.
