Ok, question. I know this it too help with the rear cooling which from what I've read has poped up on more than one. Question is, is this something I should look into doing with just a CAI and tune as a safe guard and preventative medicine, or will it not be neede till say I go boosted???

I have it now on the new engine, but I didn't on the old and it was in absolutely perfect condition at 94,000 miles.

IMO, it is one of those 'it depends' situations. If you're SC'ed, it's a no-brainer. If N/A, the need for a RCM depends on how often you beat on it and how many 1/4 mile trips you make; even if you don't beat on it or make 1/4 mile trips (like me...so far), I think it's cheap insurance especially the farther beyond 100k you get. What's it cost to get it done...around $150-200?
If you have definite plans to get SC'ed, go ahead and do it now...I just talked myself into putting this back in the top 3 of projects to get done during my spring break...

I'm getting ready to order mine, some really nice ones out there, Cobra engineering, D Augustino, musclemerk, Zack etc. What makes one better than the other ?

Simple is best.
Musclemerc offers the entire kit with hoses and clamps
I just give you the fittings that go in the heads

The cooling modification cannot hurt anything IF IT IS DONE RIGHT but I'm not sure it's necessary??
I have my original engine with 252,xxx miles on it and 168,xxx miles Supercharged and have no problems that I can detect but I don't beat on the car mercilessly either!!
I would probably do it for insurance if I raced the car a lot!! :burnout:

Install fitting that you can install on the back of the head (opposite of where the coolant crossover is installed) and then plumb it to the back of the water pump along with the heater core return. The pump will draw the coolant out of the driver side has as it does with the passenger head.
On3 has a fitting that works and it's very affordable.
The Cobra engineering kit may require you to remove the trans (it does on mustangs).

I'm only doing it for insurance and If it helps that's great. I'd kick myself if I messed up and fried one of the rear heads and didn't have this. Just my thoughts because I've got WAY TOO MUCH into this crazy car to not take precautions. :D

Allowing the coolant to escape from the back of the head is good insurance and it can be done effectively without having to spend a lot money or time.

Would this have maybe prevented my valve seat problem after 120,000+ stock miles? I had this even flow kit in my closet forever and I wonder if it might have prevented the cylinder head replacement that I had to get.

If the valve seat problem was in the last two cylinders in the drivers side head, then yes it most likely would have prevented it.

Just do it. Cheap and not hard to do. Musclemerc's kit comes with everything you need, plus 5/8" hoses instead of 1/2"

Funny how some say this is not necessary until they are in need of cylinder head repairs and 7 and 8 issues

Get one that doesn't require a hammer to install. Billet machined pieces + o-ring, is easily better.
You could score your heads and then you have leaks AND a damaged head. Say for example this thread...

Wouldn't install that crap if it was free.

Yes, if I recall correctly, it was number 7. Ford gave me a superseding cylinder head for that side. Apparently, Ford did a fix for the problem. Assume I got to get the other side done with the upgraded part or will the evenflow kit still work on both sides?

Prolly won't even need it, but with the luck I've had lately, it'll just be a piece of mind more than anything right now...plus, it's a DTR, so it'll add 25 RWHP...;)

I have installed and removed tons of freeze plugs in my life without any issues.
And i prob a own 20 different hammers for different things and use them on a regular basis without issue.
Just sayin'
I have the on3 kit, i think it is the best and simplest design for a universal kit for the 4v dohc engine. It completely customizeable you can plumb it however you want as long as you have the ability to make AN hose and buy the proper fittings. For those that don't want to mess with expensive AN stuff Travis' kit is just the ticket.
The MM cooling system is different, and there is nothing wrong with Travis' kit, it is well made and well thought out like all of his stuff.
There is nothing wrong about using a hammer to install something, you have to drive in an axle seal or timing cover seal or rear main seal on these motors.
You need a small hammer, not a jackhammer lol

+1, if you cause a head leak while removing a plug on the cylinder head, you shouldn't be doing car maintenance beyond an oil change.

Tell that to Blown 3.8 and Shermanator , because they use Brass freeze plug cooling mods as well.
Don't blame the parts, blame the mechanic.

Travis makes a nice kit and it was my fault for rushing that part of the build. Never dug that far into an engine before doing the Eaton Swap and it certainly did teach me a lot.
Besides that, the car runs fine and I was able to modify my car pretty nice with just reading on forums and piecing together the parts rather then buying a kit or taking it to someone else to do for me. That's what I love about these forums, the education...

Can you bring some to Louisville, and how difficult would be to try and install in a parking lot?

Personally I would not do this in a parking lot do to the issues many have with bleeding the cooling system. When we get together for events nobody wants to work all day...

If you fill the cooling system under a vacuum you shouldn't need to bleed it at all.

I just read the installation instructions for the Travis cooling mod -- I see what his does, but WTH is "COT" and "DS" -- I understand using abbreviations, but without knowing what they mean, it gets very confusing!
