I can officially post this now:

My wife accepted an offer from her company (Boeing) and we will be relocating out to Seattle very soon. Unfortunately, I will be looking for a new job. But this is an exciting opportunity that we don't want to pass up. We're both in a great spot in our lives to make this happen.

We will be out in Seattle the last weekend in April doing some house-hunting and my wife starts May 2. I will be closing up last minute items here in VA and will join her out in Washington sometime in June. I don't know the sched

I just wanted to post this note here in the CAM forum first because you all are an extended family. It will definitely be sad leaving friends and family behind, but we're thrilled at this new adventure. Thank you for welcoming us into the fold. It has been a pleasure CAMaraudering with you all!

Actually you are correct. We have two weddings this year that we'll fly back for. One in July and one in November.

Good luck with the new chapter in your lives man...I hear Seattle is beautiful...just really rainy. Never been there myself though.

My brother in law works for Chicago Bridge and Iron in their Seattle office. He flys "home" to the California Central Coast 1 week out of the month. I think for him the job is great but he craves more sunshine than Seattle can offer so he comes home to catch up on some rays (and see the wife and kid.) :) Good luck with the move!

Many congrats to both of you about your move to Seattle. My wife and I have very good friends whose son is in his second semester at U of W and he loves it there...this from a Texas boy who is probably getting webbed fingers and toes at this point. His parents flew up for some football games and for parents' weekend...and though they did report that it was rather wet much of the time, they found the city and the surrounding areas to be absolutely beautiful.

When the sun is out and it's not raining it's absolutely beautiful out there. I worked as General Manager Midwest for Weyerhaeuser Corp in Fed Way Washington so spent many weeks in the Seatle area. Let us know how many hundreds of dollors your car plates cost! It will shock you!

I think you are safe, you have been holding MD down and he has been holding VA down for the gingers.

Ryan,

You know even though you will be on the other side of the US you will still be required to set up the Captain Dan's meet. haha It will give a good reason for your dad to bring his MM out.

What you post could be 100% true however this thread was not the place for it.

Actuallly a number of years ago an inititive was passed that lowered the price of car tabs to "$25" Of course the gov't found some ways around that and they have crept back up but they are still much lower than they used to be.

True story :burnout:

Stay on the East coast.

But it is quite beautiful out that way. I enjoyed my trip out to Portland 14 years ago. Have fun.

Louisville would be quite a long drive for you next year:(

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it! Seattle is a great city. I've been there a couple times, and I really love it. In fact I wanted to move out there back in 2007. But life happened. I really honestly thought we would be moving to Denver this time last year because my company is HQ in Boulder, CO. As it turns out, it's my wife who got the chance.

This is a huge decision and a lot of factors went into it. Obviously all of our family and most of our friends are here on the East Coast. We'll be leaving them behind when we move. But, at the end of the day, we decided that an opportunity in a new city at this stage in our lives is one that we would regret if we don't do it. We are at a great point in our lives to make it happen. We also live in a highly technological society, so friends, family etc are available online, facebook, twitter, instagram, emails, skype, etc... We'll be in touch with everyone. And this also provides a great opportunity for folks to come out and visit!

Our move will happen relatively fast. We have a lot of items to get ready before we move so I may not be online as much in the next couple of weeks.

Ryan,

This is true. I still am required to set this up! Maybe I can join you in spirit with my Dungeness crab from Pike Place Market!

Pretty city. Spent a lot of time out there on business in the 1990's. Our corporate office was right across the freeway from IVARs (?), a bit north of the ferry dock.

Seattle Underground was interesting to visit as was the Bainbridge Island Ferry ride. Old World's Fair site was nice.

But, to be honest, I didn't get to see a whole lot of sun during my many, many trips out there. And, within the city's hilly area, a very light snowfall caused some problems.

But, that was the 90's, and things change.

Good luck.

Ryan,
Good luck with your new West Coast endeavors. You new mission in life is to find and catalog all of the micro-breweries around your new home, so when we come thru as nomads with our 5th wheel you'll know where to take us.
