Building the rotating assembly for my ford 2.3L turbo motor.
Im looking for a bullit proof setup.. but with a reasonable budget not sky the limit make prototypes..
I already have the performance Alum esslinger D-port head, upgraded turbo=, equal length ceramic costing headers & full Borla dual 3" exhaust system inc 3" downpipe
an oversized air to water intercooler system very similar to the setup on my Marauder will be utilized. Thus, I will be running 21psi & 10.0-1 compression.
I'd appreciate thoughts opinions etc..
see attached bottom end build..

I hope the boost will get you laid after spending that kind of coin on a 4 banger.

I'd hope so too..
But project is mostly for father & I to complete... been a long time coming...
Father was original owner & I got car at 16. It'll be nice to get motor back in car... long time coming.. been converted from 4 to 5 lug for larger rims/ barkes & a True trac installed. used 2 merkur xr4ti's & a merkur scorpio to make 1 restomod

I've been advised that the piston coating ceramic & skirt cuz'd termal transfer problems & burned off etc on the bonneville car. so not used anymore
but was orignally planning to use coatings instead of piston squirters..

Killer setup!
I'm building a similar motor for my '84 Turbo Convertible.
Parts:
'88 Turbo TBird block with main cap supports and ARP hardware
Cast 2.5 Ranger crank
Crower Rods
Ported Esslinger Head
GT 35 ball bearing, water cooled turbo
Custom stainless steel header
Ported, gutted and rotated 90 degree intake
ATR 3" S.S. downpipe to 2.5" S.S. dual exhaust
I have not bought the roller cam, intercooler nor injectors yet.
Going to run 18 - 20 psi boost.
I understand that the stock cast cranks are plenty stout if you stay under 6,500 rpm.
Looking for 400 HP from my 'hairdryer Pinto' motor!

Are you going MAF conversion? I have yet to install mine but seems straight forward. Should be setup for 42lb inj.

Yes, I'm ditching the vane meter set up.

Are 42# Injectors going to be enough?
For some reason I remember looking at 52# injectors....
gotta do the fuel flow calcs again.

#42lb inj what mine currently setup for... it'll get tuned later... much better than stock 32-36lb inj's

any thoughts on oil squirters vs coatings...

Why not just wait until somebody wrecks a 2015 Mustang with the 2.3L EcoBoost? That would be a killer swap in a Turbo Coupe, and can't beat 320HP stock. Probably vibrate a hell of a lot less then that old 2.3 too. :D

I went with Calico coatings on the pistons and bearings....Oil squirters = windage.
That's why FORD dropped the squirters on the Mustang 5.0 Coyote motor.

True, but where's the fun in that!?
I want to smoke somebody with a boosted, shaky, quaky Pinto motor!!

John Huber knows how to make a 2.3L Pinto motor MOVE!!!!

I wish I could help you on the squirters/coating debate. I haven't thought about building my XR in years. I've spent way too much money on my Marauder.
I had a chance years ago to buy a complete Cosworth drivetrain for $5000. I'm kicking myself now for not jumping on the deal. Are you a member of turboford.org or xrforums.com?
Here's how mine sits right now:

That's a motor for a completely different project.. granted one that sounds fun... but not in the spirit of the build.

Oh by the quik pic u should have def jumped on it..
I like the look. r those glass headlight lens?
I like the open cossy front... great for intercooler placement
1 or 2 have even made into the 4x4 cosworth drivetrain
I am using the merkur scorpio complete rear end, brakes & all (True-Trac rear)
this allow my merkur XR4TI to upgrade from 4 lug to 5 lug all around.
I will be doing a build thread on a 2.3L turbo & merkur forum(s) but just getting bottom end finalized... s

My original plan for motor was looking at doing this coating(S) on the different engine surfaces...
http://swaintech.com/race-coatings/automotive-coatings/
Pistons – Gold Coat on Top (upgraded ceramic) and PC-9 on Skirt
Cylinder Heads – TBC™ Thermal Barrier Coating in Combustion Chambers and on Valve Faces and Radius Side (TBC) & Exhaust Ports (when coating chambers)
Remember setup is for 10.0-1 compression ratio & 21psi boost
If this done with oil squirters but then also use:
Bearings PPM 4 Cylinder Mains
Bearings PPM 4 Cylinder Rods
Crank Shaft Oil Shedding
Connecting Rods Oil Shedding.

Thank you, the car has a full RS500 bodykit from batinc.net. The headlights are Euro spec Cosworth lights. I have a bunch of performance/aftermarket parts squirreled away, I don't even remember where they all are. I'd love to get a hold of a Scorpio rear one day. Sadly, the car started as an auto with the C3. For fun my friend and I swapped in an A4LD out of a T-Bird TC in to it. My next project was to switch it to a T5 manual, but life got in the way.

That's some interesting technology, and not terribly expensive. I'm interested in the results if you go this route. Looks like something that could benefit our Marauder engines as well.

My current marauder motor is ceramic piston top & anti-fricton skirt

I just spoke to JE (pistons) & they told me their ceramic top is done in house & its high quality...
but im unsure if Ill do the side skirt in friction coast

I dug out my pistons and checked:
They are ceramic coated on the tops and the skirts have a anti-friction coating:

attached is my 2.3L Turbo - Bottom End build - for review
I am looking for some feedback. Thoughts on bottom end build. Vehicle has many other mods including a built head & oil pan. Motor will be 10.0-1 compression & 22PSI. Im looking to build a motor that will be bullet proof for years to come but not for Drag racing. I building as a car i can drive to track & then to run two weekends a year or so on Pocono international raceway. I run 2 high banked turns & then the infield "S" turns... It will get ran hard for 2 hrs at a time then sit for 2hrs till my next 2 hr period on track for entire weekend.
If theres anything I may be missing to make this stout build etc please speak up... (
