Well, my car is finally getting the 4.30's gears put in by my local dealer. I provided them with mobil one gear lube 75w90 and the limited slip additive. So all they need is labor. Hopefully all goes well and they dont try screw me with "extra parts". The service guy mentioned there may be extra parts, but i told him there should be no extra parts unless they mess up the install. I'll keep you all posted. My SCTT from Dennis should be in Wed, so i will have the complete package ready to go soon!!!

4:30s, way to go! You're going to love the difference.
"No extra parts"? Have you included a gear install kit? New pinion bearing and seal, shims, heavy duty ring bolts, and all the small stuff needed for a clean install?
Happy motoring!
Aaahhhhh, you're having a good day! Getting new gears AND UConn won last night!

Excellent, Frank! I'm planning on having mine done (4.10 though) this week or next. Calling to order my parts from Dennis today, if all goes well. Let us know your impressions when you get the car back and everything installed.

Well, i called my dealership and found out my car will not be ready today. They had to order new bearings. Now if my bearings were indeed bad, wouldnt my warranty cover that or not? Just wondering, they didnt give me a price either, so i was wondering if anyone knows what price the bearings should be around so i dont get hosed at the dealer. They told me either wed/thur it should be ready, once the parts come in. They said the seals and all were ok though. Im so anxious to see what a difference this will all make!!!!
Wish me luck

I really wished you had asked for advice here first, Frank, things may have been smoother, and less expensive for you.
When changing gear ratios, some things are necessary inclusions, like bearings, races, seals, ring bolts, and so on...Now that your dealer has to order the parts you did not provide them, and told them not to add in on their own, you're at their mercy, parts wise. You're lucky your dealer wants to install the 4:30s to begin with, Frank. Now they are trying to patch things up on your behalf.

Hey, i actually did post a message about it in this thread http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8966 I was basically told that i wont know what i need until its torn apart. Im cool with that, as long as its done right, which they are doing, by replacing bad/worn parts. I looked online, those bearings should only be around $50 or so, its not too bad, it could be worse. Hopefully the part will be in tomorrow and my car will be ready!!!!

MM is parked under cover- gas is too high. Decided just once not to think and over analyze, just react regardless if the 4:10s will cost we 2-3 MPG. Bought a new Ford Racing 4:10 gear kit for $150 from FORD today in Atlanta. Had to have it - don't really know why. Foolish things old people do.

Glenn, you are only as old as you feel. :)
I've seen people who are only in their 30's look like they were in their 80's, and vice versa.........

I plan to have a local dealer install my 4.10 gears. Should I ask Dennis for anything additional (bearings, studs, etc?) when I order the parts from him?

Ill find out tomorrow (thur) when i pick up my car what parts were needed. I was told some sort of bearings. I'll keep you all posted and i'll let you know what i think of the gears.
Also, heres another happy customer of Dennis. I received my SCT tuner today, so when i arrive at the dealer, i will program my car for the "correct gearing". LOL

well, thur has arrived and its still not done!!!! They said they needed shims that i didnt provide for them, so that had to order more stuff!! Im starting to wonder whats really going on. The cars been there since tuesday, i was supposed to drive to the NY auto show friday, now i cant cause i have no car. They told me it would be ready friday afternoon. Hopefully when i get back from the auto show they will still be open and i can get my car. If no, they NEED to give me a loaner cause im supposed to go to my GF's house up in MA. So i need transportation. What kills me most is they told me it would be ready wed, thur latest. Im starting to worry now.

You cannot believe how great it is to have a Ford Master mechanic in Atlanta who does all the MM mods with no trouble and very reasonable prices. Gear changes in hours and no hassle on parts. He knows exactly what to do. If we did not have Team Ford, I would go to a local Mustang peformance shop and have them do the 8.8 rear gear swap. It is exactly the same set-up.

Hmmmm... My dealer installed my 4:10s along with a sway bar, thermostat, new plugs, and burned the DR program from my SCT in a matter of hours. No extra parts or other monkey biz at all. I did only have 3.5K on the odo so bearings were still fine. No pain other than in the wallet.
