Everybody wants to have a go at the Merc

Anybody experience this? Every time I drive this car, and I mean every time, somebody tries to get in a race.

If I go to the grocery store guaranteed there will be someone pulling up beside me looking to throw down at the next stop light.

Its funny because its not really a "HEY look at me car". Most people I run into tell me its a cool car but most haven't even heard of them. Actually, most people I've talked to think its a GM with pipes and wheels added to it haha.

Yet there is always someone on the street that thinks its go time when they see it. I've had new and old Camaros, Mustangs, a brand new Vette and countless others try to get me to race them.

Sadly, its still basically a stock Marauder so I don't usually humor them. Although I did completely wax a new CTS last night. I know that's not necessarily saying much, but it did feel pretty good even though it was a 6.

I ran into an SVT Contour yesterday. They pulled across a white line to get behind me and followed me to the next red, and we lined up. But for some reason, after I blipped it to get my toe on the line, they said "Oh Hell No". I'm NA with loud exhaust, so no huge threat, but OK, surrender is acceptable.

I ran into an SVT Contour yesterday. They pulled across a white line to get behind me and followed me to the next red, and we lined up. So far no one wants any part of my "police car". They move out of the passing lane like the parting of the red sea and get mad when they realize im not the five-o. I kinda messed around against my best friend's 96 impala SS...i reeled him in quick and was starting to pull when his girl friends yelled at him to slow down.

I used to get that. Not so much anymore now that the car is old, often needs a wash, and looks more and more like just an old CV/GM. I don't humor them anymore.

Yep, had that problem with people wanting to go, had no traction, DR's left on the back now, as well as enough power to make sure I'm not second.

Mainly the ricers will ride along side of me and down shift so I hear there fart can trying to get me to look over at them ,of course I ignore it and it seems to get them mad cause I won't look over at them.

JUst had it happen five minutes ago...a POS civic pulled up and wanted to go. I was basically at the turn to go into work so he didn't quite know how to act when I just drove normal...pretty funnt though...

My sister has one of these with a cold air intake and the cats removed....we may have to run em and then report but I'll bet she can kill me in the 1/8.....

last time i did anything on the hiway was probably 3 years ago against a SS Camaro, got him but felt bad about doing it on the hiway. I am getting old fer sure.

Used to be every time the car left the garage. Now with the cams, exhaust, and 6 speed, NOBODY plays anymore! I'm glad too. 10 years of that BS gets really old, really quick.

I don't know if people just aren't in the mood or they don't have the balls to give it a go, but I can't seem to peak anyone's interest...highway or in the city. I've driven past a few quick lookin rides too. Still, no one tries to run up beside me. The closest thing I've experienced is when I was driving a lane over from a boosted hyundai genesis coupe that sounded and looked the part. He was a couple cars behind and traffic was kinda thick, but I could hear his blow off valve whistling at me.

I was just thinkin how I can never find anyone to give it a short go with on my way home from work when an Impala SS passes me in the opposite direction. Bummer... :rolleyes:

Same happened to me on 494 here in the cities. I was coming back from visiting my brother when an RT zigzagged through light traffic to get behind me and to the right - I was in the middle lane of a three-lane highway. As he crept up on me I dropped OD at 65mph, so the 4.10s put it up around 3K. His windows were down so he got a good blast of DOHC sweetness, then when our mirrors met, WOT. IDK WTF he was thinking but he didn't do a thing. That was a little strange.

Back down to 5 over and he wound up passing me about 3 minutes later, not one look - but his girl sure did.:coolman:

Again, NA here, so these guys have a chance, if they had the balls.

Passed by a Camaro this mornin on the way to work. We did the whole pass each other back and forth thing in the lanes beside each other. Finally it was enough screwin around and I gave it about 3/4 throttle while still in OD to pass a truck that was in my lane and to get ahead. The tranny downshifted and shot up to about 3k and gave off a nice rumble. He decided to stay behind and at 65 for the rest of our trip down the highway.

Had a jacka$$ roll up next to me in a CTS-V, we were already on the highway (in Mexico) rolling @ 65, barely got it dropped out of OD, he got the hit, his front bumper to the rear of my front door was all he had, he bailed at 132, so I guess I won??

Big disappointment today. Was on my way home after work and was merging onto the freeway when I saw what? Black sedan with that distinctive profile with shiny wheels coming up in the far lane. Quick double take, yup a Marauder. Don't see them often at all around here.

I merged in a few lengths behind him and changed lanes while accelerating. I wasn't being an obnoxious driver or anything. He was eyeballing me in his mirror as I came up beside him and gave him the old "waddup nice ride" wave. He just kept eyeballing me and scowled so I maintained speed and went on my way.
