I'm 39, not very athletic, and I'm tired every day when I get home from work. Wife told me I needed a new bike so that I could actually spend a bit of time with my four children when work doesn't interfere.

This is what I came up with. Its an Electra single speed, I bought it cause it was cheap (old model covered in dust at the bike shop) and cause it was kinda cool with the green and black paint.

After I got it and tooled around a bit, I was sitting in the shop with a bottle of whisky and decided it needed some work. Wife always pulls the two little kids around in a trailer behind her bike, but I wanted to keep it real with something a bit more impractical haha.

This is the hack I built for it. It handles great, its dangerous as Hell, and the kids love it.

New brown saddle to sort of match the seat in the side car:

My first attempt at building a seat, not perfect but it works.

I'm not an engineer, and certainly not a very good welder. I lucked out when it was done, it tracked straight, the hack didn't pull the bike to the right, and it all held together!

I built a mount/pivot using some sacrificial kickstands from a local sporting goods store. It allows a bit of lean in big sweeping high speed turns haha and keeps everyone aboard from getting rattled to pieces when hitting bumps.

This is the first bike I built, when my parents gave me my wedding present 12 years ago (a Lincoln mig buzz box). My oldest son Tom has claimed it, and he rides it every day we don't have snow. This was two years ago, he fits it better now.

sacrificial kickstands]

I have heard of sacrificing a lamb, and maybe even a virgin or two, but when did they start sacrificing kick stands????

Well, you know him as well as you know me haha. Wife shakes her head at my projects, but I haven't seriously harmed any of my children yet (cross my fingers).

I am sure the Canadian medical plans appreciate that!!!

What can I say, I'm a trend setter. Soon you may read it in the new versions of the Old Testament.

I needed clamps for the rear section of the bike frame, so I bought three kickstands and torched off the necessary pieces. I'm not a fabricator, I'm a butcher.

Sadly, sometimes that's how I do my best work!

Those are some sweet looking bikes! Last year I semi restored my 1987 Haro Master. I didn't have to do any fabricating, but it wasn't cheap. Heck, I paid $237 for just tires!

Those bikes are awesome! Gotta love that side car. I bet parts were a blast to find for that haro! I put this together and only thing left stock is the frame.

Love the build!

I don't build them, but I have 3 Raleighs. Don't get enough time on any of them.

Haha, thanks.

This was another thing I was working on for it, but sidelined it as I didn't want to add unnecessary weight to the rig.

Obviously non-firing, but it has a spring-loaded charging handle. Kinda fun but heavy.

There are a few finishing touches the outfit needs: a step on the side of the hack, fenders to protect little fingers from getting balled up in the spokes, some paint to finish off the Flying Tiger theme, and maybe a playing card in the spokes!
