Non-Oxy fuel, filled it up

Lo and behold my local BP has Non-Oxy 91 octane for $4.25, right next to their $4.05 93. Since I have Lidio's 91 tune loaded I figured why not, I'll give it a shot. I took on 17.5 gallons and reset the trip.

I'll report back if my 15.5 average MPG changes. NA, cat delete, tune with 4.10s and 70% town / rolling traffic jams for my 7-mile one-way commute. Saturdays I make sure I get at least 20 minutes of clear freeway time.

Butt dyno so far (placebo effect in full swing) says it runs a little better.

Yep. MN is a big producer of Ethanol and finding non-oxy was a surprise. I hadn't seen it around in a long time.

I know we have a few specialty fuel retailers here but I've never really cared.

You should come up to Maple Grove for a fill up sometime. We have a station near my shop that has (as of last year, haven't been there yet this year) 105 unleaded and something like 108 leaded at a pump. When I use the 108 I only put in about half a tank, the rest normal premium, then I retime my Corvette for some real fun.

I've heard of that one but never been there, a BP I think? This one is actually just off Hwy 81 about 4 miles NW of Osseo...Go up to the stoplight at 113th Street (into the Dayon Industrial Park), take a right off 81, follow the road about 1/4 mile to Kisch Oil on the left. This isn't really a "gas station", they have an unattended pump island there, only credit cards at the pump, nobody around. It's just 1 pump that dispenses both...of course labeld "for off road use only" or call me if you need more info. 612-366-5563

OK, drove by during lunch and here's what I found: 102 octane non oxy, unleaded for $6.95/gal & 110 octane non oxy leaded for $6.45/gal.
I don't think most will fill their tanks with this stuff, but I did some research a few years ago and found that mixing leaded premium with unleaded regular, or the other way around...actually resulted in a higher octane than either had to start with due to some weird chemical science (where is Walter White when we need him?) I think some investigating would quickly reveal the proper mix of what to do in what proportions to get you some pretty serious fuel. When I run the 110, I mix it about 1/3 - 1/2 tank with unleaded premium in the rest and it keeps a high compression 1969 427 happy enough to advance the timing to actually close to where it supposed to be by '69 specs. Remember, if you have more octane than your engine needs, you're wasting it, it does not magically offer more performance

Ethanol is destructive to engines.

It is horribly inefficient and pollutes more than gas.

Most vehicles see a significant drop in MPG on E10 vs. Gas.

My 97 Tbird ran like crap on it. In summer if a/c was on it would stall coming to a stop. Got pissed off and filled with pure gas and 1.5 tanks later the car ran like new and MPG increased by 5mpg.

I never run E10 in anything anymore. It costs me $3 more to fill up but in long run I save $8/10 tank as it goes farther.

Really good note about the lead killing the cats. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that with the one I mix gas for, a 1969 427 Corvette didn't have them yet. When I did the engine in that I put in hardened seats, so I can run leaded or unleaded. I have the distributor just a tad loose so I can change it's timing "by ear" depending on what is in the tank, but it does NOT appreciate the crap that sells as premium these days. I understand they changed the octane rating system many years ago, so what is now 91 octane would be somewhere in the low to mid 80's for octane using the old measurments. This car was built for low-mid 90 octane by the old system....

Not a bad improvement. I was low so I filled up at the local pump with 91. We'll see if it's worse 11 days from now.

It cost me an extra $7 to run non-oxy and I got an additional 17 miles out of it.
