I just bought my daughter a 2000 Chevy Prizm with 75k miles. Car needs a few cosmetics, but it checked out great at the shop yesterday! However, it does need tires. Man, there are so many no name tires out there it's unbelievable! It looks like the car may have come with Goodyear Integrity 185 65 R14's. Walmart has those at $49.00 each! Plus, I have seen other deals like on Pep Boy's Cornell 1000's for the same. Is it really worth paying ALOT more these days for say a Uniroyal or Michelin? What about other brands like Kumho, Hankook, etc...?

First I would ask how old is your daughter? If she is a new driver, I would probably put something better than average. Something that is going to have some more sipes and handle snow/water better than something entry level. I would say lower cost but good tire would be uniroyal. They are owned my Michelin and make a pretty good product. Also look into hankooks, also pretty inexpensive.

Thanks for the tips! She is a relatively new driver. No snow here, though!

While shopping, you might want to check out Summit Racing....I actually saved $150.00+ by buying F-250 tires thru website...Plus got free shipping!

Well, I just found a set of Michelin Defenders for 1/2 price on Amazon @ $85 each. That's the deal. So, I called my local shop and nicely asked if he could match the price (they were $101 each on their website) and without too much hesitation, he said "Yes!" I almost didn't call them but they are the same guys that gave me a pretty good deal on my Nitto's last week. I'd rather support the local guys!

I have Goodyear assurance tires on my daily driver, Pontiac Vibe and on my Daughter's Mazda 6. Wear like a rock, quiet, nice tread pattern, good warranty. Nice.

Over the years I've learned michelin for the dd's are the best. A tad slick in winter IMHO

Thanks for the input! Opted for the Michelins. DAYUUUM, they made a HUGE difference! They cost more, but so far, it is worth it. :D

PS. Always do your tire shopping online and then try to see if your favorite local shop will match. The Michelins were half price on Amazon and our local shop matched the price and gave me a free alignment! They also price matched a week or two ago when I got the Nitto's for the rear.

Thanks! We have all the original paperwork, including the window sticker. It says the car came with 175 65 14's. I thought about the 195's, but figured these 185 65's would be a good comprise.
