Is there a breakdown or a chart of the sizes that the Mercury Marauder Leather Jacket came in?
For instance:
25 Medium
50 Large
100 XL
100 XXL
etc?

So were the jackets custom ordered when new? Or did you walk in, buy a Marauder and say hey I'm an XL?

Jim had his specially made but for the rest of us mere mortals there was a postcard that came with the paperwork that you sent in for your size. S-2xl I think

I received a letter in about 7 days from Mercury congratulating me on my purchase of the Marauder and it included a postcard to order the lambskin Marauder jacket in my size. Got the jacket, garment bag in a box about 3 weeks later. The jacket was free and included with the sale. Retail value was about $300.00 as I recall.
If I remember correctly, the jacket give-away was only originally intended for the 2003 MM model. After pressure from many 2004 MM owners, Mercury extended the offer to 2004's but there was a lapse in production and deliveries and a 2-4 month delay in jacket deliveries.

I believe there was an in dealer ad poster that showed a guy wearing the jacket and the tag line was "Think of it as a 302 horsepower black leather jacket"

Yes I have that poster framed and signed by Steve Babcock in my garage
Thanks for the replies guys. I think my original question, though, didn't get answered. I realize how the process works to get the jacket, but my question is how many jackets total were made?
My thought process is:
1. You bought a Marauder
2. You get a postcard and send it back with your size
3. You receive a leather jacket
So my question is between #1 & #2 above. How many jackets did they originally order and have sitting on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere? So when a postcard arrived, the employee goes to size large (or XL or M) and ships out? I don't think each jacket was custom made, were they?
I guess one jacket for every Marauder made in 2003 (7,000)? Would this be a correct assumption? And then I'm just trying to understand the breakdown of the sizes. How many large, how many medium, how many XL etc

I would suspect that they probably ordered a first "Lot" of about 1,000 jackets according to a Bell Curve "Normal" distribution like this ---
Small -- 5%
Medium -- 15%
Large -- 30%
Extra Large -- 30%
2XL -- 15%
3+XL -- 5%
After that, then subsequent orders would be demand supported based on actual history and the size distribution would be adjusted accordingly. Just from my observations, MM owners tend to run a tad larger so I suspect some of the larger sizes were used up early and the size distribution was skewed to the larger side. Don't think that anyone ever knew what the final distribution was or even asked the question. By the end of MM production, I think Mercury was just interested in filling quantities and probably didn't track sizes for a final count. Someone knows; but I doubt that you could find that person.
Paul/Blackened300a probably has a better idea of the size distribution because of some 6-7 years of T-Shirt orders at Carlisle.
If I had to take a SWAG .......
Small -- 5%
Medium -- 10%
Large -- 15%
Extra Large -- 40%
2XL -- 20%
3+XL -- 10%

Bought the car in late Sept. '02 got the card in the mail about 3 weeks later, looked at the size offerings and thought XL being the largest ain't going to work so I call the 800 number (Beanstalk Productions) asked the girl on the other end if they had a larger size? She replied yes! A XXL:confused: Informed her I needed a 5XL and she said she would have to talk to the "Boss" (Alan Pointer ?)and call me back. Next day I get call saying they are going to "make" my jacket and it would take a about 2 months! Got the jacket just before Christmas

There....fixed it for ya Charlie!
Based on an old "how big are you' thread....
I'd agree that the entire 'bell curve' is shifted towards the larger sizes.
Small and Medium are most likely the rarest sizes of Marauder leather jackets.
Large, XLarge, and 2XL being the most requested size of the jackets.

After reading this post i found the pic of the one and only custom made Marauder jacket from turkey. I used to wear and show the jacket with the car.
This pic is from Carlisle 2007 or I believe, before we had the mountain.

So next winter I shall start winter show off your jacket meets! :)

You can get that and more done by any competent embroider.
I'll have to get one done.

As many of the members from the last Bert's meet can confirm, my jacket delivery was delayed 10 years.... but it finally arrived.
