Hopefully a quick and easy question and answer. I'm about to acquire a 2007 P71 that needs the transmission valve body cleaned out. Other than the pan gasket, which I know may be reusable, are there any single use gaskets or hardware that i'll need to replace?

How do you know the valve body needs to be "cleaned out"? Usually if there's that much junk in there, you have other more serious problems.

But to do what you're asking, you'll only need the two spacer plate (also called the separator plate) gaskets. The pan gasket is re-useable unless someone replaced it with a crappy one.

Also consider doing the J-mod while you have it apart.

Short answer, I don't "know" for sure that it does. But based on the description and what research i've done so far, it points to a gunk problem. The description stated "Very, very slow to engage forward gears, but moves easily once engaged. No problem with reverse".

I haven't driven the car yet, I pick it up saturday and should know more once I get it home and can get a feel for it. I figure the most I'll be out is some trans fluid, a filter, a few gaskets, and a few hours time. If it fixes it, great, if not, oh well. I'm gonna start with cheap and easy first.

if your taking the valve body apart completely, you'll also want the valve body cover gasket, in addition to the two valve body/seperator plate gaskets.

I generally grab a pan gasket anyway, its only like 30-40$.

and a new filter.

if its slow to engage in Drive, there is a problem with the forward clutch.

If there are debris or "gunk" in the pan its time for a rebuild. NO amount of valve body cleaning will fix that.

If you remove the valve body from the transmission, you will need 2 gaskets, a filter and 10 qts of mercon V
