I am looking to rebuild my rear end and adding a Ford Racing trac lok .
My car is a 2003 LSE (( WITH TRACTION CONTROL and ABS )).
Since the Ford 28 spline trac lok is no longer available can i convert to 31 spline ???
*** Will the 2005 + 31 spline axles and bearings fit the 2003 / 28 spline rear end housing ??? ***
*** what else will be different ??**

I maybe wrong, but I think all you need is 31 spline axles and bearings (I believe the 31 spline bearing are bigger than the 28 spine ones), 31 spline spider gears and a 31 spline differential pinion shaft and maybe the shaft retaining bolt.

The 2005+ fit just fine. I installed OEM 2005 31 spline axles and a Boss 302 Torsen differential with 3.73's on my car. Changed all bearings and seals while I was at it. Seals and bearings are the same for either size axles.
If you are n/a I don't see the need for 31 spline. 28 spline and a Traction Lok was more than enough for my 2000 Grand Marquis with I had a roots on it.
I do like the Torsen by the way. It is wonderful to be able to put power to the ground as I complete a turn. The TracLok simply sent the car sideways.

The 28 spline trak lok is discontinued and no longer available.
This is why i am going to 31 spline .

Get a ford racing 31 spline cobra diff assembly, if you shop around you could find one for under $200.
If you need a parts list look here,

that's it, the number I had listed is the same thing with the cobra clutches, its just the ford racing number vs. OEM ford number.
Tousley, now Autonation White Bear Lake had been selling them for $174.00 for a while. you might want to check with them.

Since you'll have the driveshaft out, you may also want to consider a driveshaft safety loop.
Would recommend the METCOMotorsports offering (simple bolt-in installation - uses the front seat anchor bolting points)http://www.metcomotorsports.com/prodimages/large/MDL2300.jpg
