A Slidell woman allegedly was trying to avoid paying her hospital bill by using her dead sister's name, birth date, and Social Security number when she checked in to a local hospital last week. At the time, police said she was wearing the deceased woman's memorial shirt.
Diondre Jones, 26, was booked with one count of Medicaid fraud, police said.
Jones checked in to Slidell Memorial Hospital on Aug. 5, where Slidell police said she registered as Delores Jones in an attempt to avoid having to pay the bill. Medical staff treated Jones, police said.
When the staff entered Delores Jones' name into the hospital's system, police said an error popped up that said "date of death precedes date of service." Diondre Jones already had left the hospital, police said, but an officer was able to stop her in the parking lot.
The officer questioned Jones, who said, "They must have gotten the name from this shirt," police said. Jones pointed at her T-shirt, which was a memorial shirt for her deceased sister, Delores, police said.
Jones also was booked on a previous attachment for failure to appear on a previous arrest.
