   Hey guys & gals ...........just a note to let you in on something you might or might not know about . Seeing that we all have cars that NEVER exceed the speed limit ( ya ......right ) ..........here is someting that at least will not get the "points" put on your license .
IF you do get caught going over the speed limit ........and get fined .........when you pay the fine ( whatever the cost is ) , always pay a couple of dollars extra . Just about every state has a law that it HAS to send you a refund for your "extra" amount . When they send you that check for the couple of dollars , DO NOT cash that check . Throw it away . It will not let the transaction be completed . Your fine will be paid ...but until they have record that the check was cashed , no points should be levied on your license record . Reason is its not a completed transaction . .............its has worked so far several times for people I know personally . ..............good luck , and SPEED SAFELY ! .............Dave

Fiction.

This is just one of those myths that never die.

Plenty more of them here -

I would chalk that up to coincidence or luck before anything else.

I've seen situation in NY(city) in which cars were towed ... & people were sent on wild goose chases to get them back.

One person said the car was in lot "A" - get to lot A .... told it was not there, that it was in lot "B" 20 miles away. Get to lot B, told not there either, must be in lot C somewhere else. Get to lot C, told not there, it's back at lot A, & was always at lot A.

Etc etc etc ... you get the idea. NY's left hand never knew what the right hand was doing. I'd imagine their paperwork & record keeping when it comes to notifying MV is no different.

It is a myth, folks. No doubt about it. Until you can know for sure that it was the overpayment you cannot rule out lost paperwork, computer glitch, etc.

The odds are far greater that they will send it back to you, uncashed, and then require that you resend it along with a LATE FEE.

Best,

Dan

Eric..........I live in upstate NY . Both situations happened in my area . Never been to NY City , never want to . Its alot different there .
I contacted a good friend of mine in Nevada .......he did the same thing there about 14 months ago . Thats what reminded me of this . He has not had the points added to his license either . ...........Dave

A more specific URL where this can be explained is here...

here is a second...

I got a speeing ticket one time in Weston, CT. I sent it back with a not guilty plea and, when I got the pretrial notice, I called them on the day of the hearing and said I couldn't make it.

My license never got suspended, I never got called into court and I never had to pay the fine. Now, would it be fair of me to say that just by caling them on the day of my hearing I messed up the system and got away with it? Probably not because of the other variables involved.

I hope that anyone who tries the overpayment method on a ticket does so with the knowledge that the odds of it not working are great and that if it seems to work it could be for numerous other factors. On the other hand, it is only a couple of extra bucks, right? If you try it, I hope it works.

Best,

Dan
