But I've wanted one of these since I first saw 2 Lane Blacktop when I was 10. Depending on how fast I can get it shipped here, I might be putting plates on it by next weekend!

Need to find a shipper and get the payment to the seller on Tuesday, long weekend is cramping my style.

Those whitewalls will be getting burned off as soon as I get it! Minor things on the to-do list: radius the rear wheel wells, remove trim and front fenders and hood (replace with 'glass one piece unit :D), then start the build for the new drivetrain.

I'd like to keep it as a driver for now, just do little things at a time to keep it on the road as much as possible. Maybe over the winter put in the 454 and new transmission.

Got my car! Saturday I left home with a trailer and drove down through N. Dakota and across through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and into Ontario Sunday evening. Loaded it up, got a few hrs of sleep and hit the road at 4 am to come home. 5400 km round trip, should have had a relief driver.

In all her glory, road grime and all.

Tach and speedo quit working, and only have one headlight. Fairly minor fixes, and it'll be at least ready to drive around in. Also need to remove tint from the windows, replace the retread bias plys, and change the exhaust.

Mama says I'm not dumping a pile of cash into it right away, so I'm just going to do the little stuff for now.

Engine seems ok for now, Dart heads and intake (meh) and Hooker headers into 2 1/2" pipes. Saginaw 4 spd with Hurst shifter isn't ideal but will do until I replenish the fun money and can buy an M22.

Made it home after the first outing in the car. Boy had a football game on the other side of town and mama wasn't too sure about taking the Chevy. We've had a cold snap the last few days (highs of 4-5 degrees C) and we have to drive with the windows down because I haven't removed the tint yet.

Got lots of thumbs up and comments, and one cop eyeballed me but left me alone. I assume it was the tint and burned out headlight. Mama is now huddled in bed with extra blankets and probably won't ride in it until the weather warms up some.

Gotta get these things fixed.

Something like that. Was hot in Aug but last week the mercury plummeted. supposed to be better next week.

That's the long term plan.

Well, the plans have changed considerably since I first got this car. A long hard winter of work and no play means I didn't do ANY of the things I wanted to the Chevy.

But, back at the beginning of April we had a few nice days so I fired it up and broke an axle. Cabin fever. But let me rewind a little in case anyone is interested.

Cut wheel openings the day after I got it: didn't feel bad about it because they had been radiused in a previous life before I was born.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20140915_1725371.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20140915_1725371.jpg.html)

New "custom" exhaust, I got rid of about 8' of pipe either side and went to simple side dumps. Cost: 10 bucks and a bit of time with the Lincoln buzz box. When I switch over to fenderwell headers I will do a better job. They hang low now to clear the frame rails but I'm going to tuck them up tight to the rockers when I do the swap. 2 1/2" pipes sure don't look as cool these days as they did when I was a kid. In my hometown if you had 2" pipes you were a god but even 3" pipes are boring these days!

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20140928_1704371.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20140928_1704371.jpg.html)

Removed front bumper. Single most effective mod to a 55 Chevy. Shed a pile of weight and it only took a few minutes. Plus these cars look waaaay better without the cow catcher in my humble opinion.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20140915_1730221.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20140915_1730221.jpg.html)

I started my radius job on the wheel wells but haven't finished it yet. I was slowly working on them when I broke it but mechanical beats cosmetic so they will have to wait. I put a set of M/T drag radials on the back last fall before the snow flew. The whites are now on my buddy's '49 Ford.

In this pic the car is filthy from dust and it seems to have developed a nasty habit of shedding its clearcoat over the winter.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20150329_203713.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20150329_203713.jpg.html)

Now you're up to speed on my progress as of early April. Went to meet a guy that had some old 55 parts, looked at it and said I would break things with those tires.

2 days later, snapped axle and its down for the count. As of now, its still down but parts are coming in and I'm putting it back together (slowly).

New Currie 9" housing, 31 spline axles, lsd with 4.11 gear. Fresh paint and ready to install in this pic:

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20150507_213715.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20150507_213715.jpg.html)

Picked up a decent Muncie M22 with a Hurst shifter earlier this year so figured I'd do it all at the same time.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20150411_120827.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20150411_120827.jpg.html)

Replacing Saginaw turned into more money than planned haha but now have new clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, etc.

Lakewood bellhousing, McLeod clutch, Centerforce flywheel, and figured what the hell and ordered a complete poly bushing kit for the car as well as a set of Calvert traction bars and new brakes all around.

Some of the shrapnel that fell out when I stood the old housing up.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae318/nolequiring/Chevy/20150502_180407.jpg (http://s983.photobucket.com/user/nolequiring/media/Chevy/20150502_180407.jpg.html)

Axle end is still stuck in diff, the whole shebang is going in the scrap bin. Kinda feel bad about that, its a posi unit but I hate dealing with tire kickers that respond to classified ads.

I don't think I'll throw the Saginaw and clutch out though, I'd like to find a new home for them.
