Well my DTR is a total loss. I'm OK and no injuries. It was a hit and run. One of the three witnesses got the tag number.

Was rear ended last Thursday afternoon while heading home. I was slowing down to make a left turn and was hit in the rear which sent me sailing. The road had just been repaved a week or so earlier and was like ice. The wheels on the passenger side both hit the curb and I jumped it and ended up about 10 feet off the road. For the most part I remember the whole ride being smooth even though looking at the car it looks pretty bad and took a big hit.

I will find out tomorrow the value and what I can buy the car back for.

Thanks for all the well wishes. We now have a partial police report and can see that the person was apprehended. I don't know anymore than that at this time.

I'm grateful that three people stopped to give information to the police.

Sorry to hear and see that. Glad you are ok.

The sad reality is the person probably has no insurance or no lisence. That's probably why they left the scene.

Good luck.

Glad you're OK but go visit your Doctor anyway sometimes whiplash takes a couple days to kick in.

Hard to tell from the pics but is all the damage related to the trunk lid, bumper and exhaust. Might be able to fix that unless there is damage that isn't visible in the pics.

Glad your ok Dave! Don't let it go to the junk yard. That's way to nice a car for that. Does this mean your not going to come to breakfast any more? It's been a year sense I've been and it's getting time to show up.

Very sorry to hear this, Dave. :( Glad that you weren't injured. Looks like a pretty good shot to the left rear in the photos. Lucky that someone was able to ID this Hit & Run bastard and get their plates.

Nothing like a full size sedan for safety.
I thought that was one of the great things about these cars is that they can be repaired easily. That's why the cops like the panther series. Body panels can be swapped out.
Beautiful car.

I concur on both points.
I was rear ended years ago and refused the ambulance ride, still have neck issues to this day.

Fix it!!

So glad to hear you are ok! Not to slight the car--but nothing else matters besides YOUR safety

One of the many reasons these cars are such great cars.... 5 star crash rating from the rear+ at high speed.

I recall an EX girlfriend chuckling at the sight of an overturned 740IL that had slid a couple hundred feet roof down along the freeway--the slide marks fully evident along the asphalt, with the owner standing next to his car with his elbow resting casually on the floorboard kick-plate (remember the car is upside-down)... she said "I bet he's sorry he spent that $80,000."

I waited for the ignorance to sink in a minute and replied, "Actually, right now, I bet he is ecstatic at the spend... He was STANDING right next to his baby... smiling!"

Again, glad you are safe. Best spend ever! Hope you fix it!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I did go to the Dr. the next day to make sure it was documented. As of today - Tuesday - I'm feeling ok. Getting more angry about the whole ordeal because now I'm without a car and have to think about buying something new and taking on a car payment.

I'm in the same boat! Also still waiting for adjuster to call me back.

Are you still thinking about getting an SHO or have you added more to your short list ?? :)

Your scenario is the exact reason why I bought my SHO two years ago. The MM was my daily driver for more than 8 years until it was retired. I became increasing aware of all of the rear-end accidents happening in Northern Virginia and knew that continued exposure to the cellphone/texting idiots around here was just a matter of time. Bought my SHO in February 2012 and got rear-ended on the way to work in it about a year later. Fortunately, the SHO was fixable. Don't think that the MM would have fared as well.

I'm thinking of the SHO now. We qualify for an X plan at work and get a good discount. Especially if I can find a 2004. Thanks Charlie.

And you had just bought the floormats off me.

Bought a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee loaded with the 5.7 Hemi. Previous owner was as particular as me about cars, the thing is super clean with low miles.

I've already been out to see Marty about a few go fast parts such as tune, CAI, exhaust, and rear sway bar. I've already upgraded the tires. The stock size, 265/50/20 were too low profile for me and upgraded to 275/55/20. I like my tires like I like my women, a bit beefy.

We miss the MM a lot, but love this truck.

USAA gave me the most they could for the car, $8300. 157,000 miles. Car was daily driver. Adjuster said she never saw a cleaner engine bay.

Granddaddy Marq

That was an outstanding car. I once parked next to it with what I thought was a clean car. You shamed me in to rewashing my car. I hate to see it go. Is there any chance of resurrecting it? Will you still be a staple at breakfast?

Marauder_Santa
10-05-2014, 08:15 AM
According to the body shop guys at the ford place where the car was delivered, the frame is bent. I'm not a mechanic (but played one once on TV) and don't have the resources to do this type of work. The engine should be good. No damage to the front.

Wow my insurance were fair with my total $14.5 with 96k mile. I bought a new 2015 nissan rouge fully loaded. I'm still gonna keep my eyes open for a marauder.
