Thanks Mary !!! :up: Some very interesting points shown in the docs. Some have never been discussed here.

1. Mercury was considering an X-100 version at one point with "Marauder" script badging and a 335 HP Supercharged 2V. Never happened.
2. No mention of 4.10 gears at all although 3.73's were considered as an offset for the lack of low end torque.
3. All price points were at the $30K mark until it hit the showrooms at $35K.
4. MotorTrend recommended dumping the Waterfall emblems in favor of the God's Head and suggested a supercharger from the beginning.
5. First year colors were to include a Dark Grey.
6. True Blue selection was changed to Dark Blue Pearl in 2003.
7. Originally planned with 17 inch rims on the front.
8. The program years included a 2005 model but the MM never made it that far.

Lots of good historical information here including the demographics of the likely buyer. Seems that one was pretty much right on the money.

and see it as a reflection of self. Classic styling is better than newer styles and they want power and acceleration.
Pro-American. 130+ miles per hour is important. These customers are independent minded.

This stuff is just incredible. As someone who was 17 when they saw their first "modern" Marauder in person back in 2002, it was love at first sight and I knew I'd have one someday. But I was always a full size car fan; especially Panthers. I was driving my first Town Car my junior year. I really was a far cry from the target demographic. Lol. But in some of the traits of the target consumers; they really did nail what I always want out of a car and I suppose I did fit some of the lifestyle assumptions they made. Thanks for sharing; it was a really good read. Makes me wish more than ever they would've expanded on some of the things that were planned...I would've loved a manual Marauder.

I know OEM were Faurecia mufflers...it's never been mentioned who built the H-pipe or the rest of the system, but they were probably also Faurecia.

Kevin Lambert told me way back in 2002 that they worked very hard on the exhaust and getting the sound just right.

All,
I bought 2 new and have NEVER had any regrets. Too bad Ford pulls the plug on advertising almost even before the official release in 2002! Never saw any ads in 2003 or 2004.

Hi, this is Seabreeze, an original 2003 lease guy and 2004 owner. I worked with Steve Babcock on prior programs at Ford, but am seeing this “what it could’ve been” info for the first time. Very cool. And, understanding how Ford worked at the time, what ended up is a little different from the “point in time” program plans. Still. I am so glad they proceeded to approve what they did, as I have loved mine for 20 years.
