thanks!
My highschool history teacher told me where it was.
1967 S code with toploader 4 speed and 9" Detroit Locker.
It was as you see it, barely running for $400, towed home. Interior was light blue, hood scoop and hole looked factory done, all paint found on interior panels, behind things was pink
I was told it may have been a Playboy giveaway car they did in '68.....

Hah! yup, Cragar SST with unilugs;)
It had cold A/C, great stereo, original CJ 351 car was best handling Mustang I ever owned.
That interior was well done, and so much more comfy than stock.
I had a candy red 70 Mach (no pics to prove) that was unreal, Cragar SS and I put a solid lifter 302 out of a stock car in it = holy! with like a 2.78 gear an 4 speed, burned rubber forever - but beat most anything in 3 towns :D

This 1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster was my 2nd car (1977), and one of the most fun.

Bought this 1983 Mercury LN7 RS new. Got 47 mpg with it and it was a blast to drive. Only fuel injected one I ever saw.

And of course, the 1963 Marauder has been there for quite a while too. Bought it in 1981 and it's by far the best car I've ever owned.

It's a Ford Escort, Mercury Lynx, Ford EXP. The only problem with it was the ignition module that took a crap on a regular basis. Other than that it was a great car.

I've got one more. Take a look at the first picture here
http://homepages.wmich.edu/~dillery/3Z68G516447.html

The Mustang beside my Marauder is the 1966 289 4V, 4-speed, 9" 4.11 car I got rid of when I bought my Marauder. It's the quickest car I've ever owned. Ran a street legal 14.28, and an uncapped 14.04. You can see the roll bar and the fender flairs I had started on.

My dad had a '69 Mustang coupe with the 351 in it. He got rid of it well before my time, but tells me stories about it. He also had a Ranchero, a Javelin and a few others. Here's the Mustang.

Before this picture was taken, Dad and his sister just got back from getting something in town, he forgot to set the handbrake and watched it roll down his driveway, eventually coming to a stop on the timber beam as you see it in the photo. He scrapped the car eventually because of the unibody rusting out. From time to time I browse the classifieds and ebay to try and find a car with the same motor, trans and color combo to surprise him with.

It was actually a '71 GT 429 CJ non ram air. 4 speed, console, A/C, ribbon tach, hideaways and 3.25 traction lock. Small ad in local paper said '429 cobra jet engine needs clutch $1500'.
I called, yup, it was the entire car for that price:D

I did trade a shaker hood, scoop assembly, tail panel and more to my engine builder. I think he still has the parts....

Hey Chief,

In post #3, attached photo (-011.jpg) is showing two engines, the one on the bottom has a glint of color that matches the 70 Torino. The engine's valve covers look what came on a 429 CJ. Do you recall if that was a 429CJ?

Thanks!

good eye! ;) and the previous photo (010.jpg), that 3 x 2bbl engine was going in the red and white truck, not the two tone blue Fairlane! :D

it was dead stock, but the wheels. First I ever saw a spread bore carb on a CJ? But, the tag matched up. Put a new clutch in, that was the most stupid fast car I had driven in stock form! sadly, east coast rust ate the torque boxes and more. It was traded for a very nice 70 GTO, and 'chief455' was spawning from my previous nickname 'fordboy'....

I haven't owned many cool cars, but my first car was a 1966 Ford Fairlane 4 door with a 289 2 barrel. It was a little old lady car with 51k on it when I bought it from her son. He didn't want to sell it, but his wife wanted the room in the garage. I loved that car even though it wasn't a fast car. The 66 Fairlane had the best looking front end of any 60's Ford.

My second car/winter beater was a 1980 poo brown Dodge Aspen with a slant 6. I hated that car, but no matter what I did it wouldn't die. Rust claimed that car and I was so happy that it did.

I'll look for the pictures of both as well as the other cars that I've owned. There isn't anything as cool as the cars Chief455 posted though.

cool as a rule...66 Fairlane = yes! never owned a 4 door, until a few 73-4 Gran Torino's. I prefer the 67 Fairlane, really the ail lights - but my first posts tell I loved them ALL!

Fairlady?

Fairlady was the old name. By the late 60's they just called it the 1600. There was also a 2000, same body with a bigger engine that came in two versions, one with SU carbs and one with Solex carbs. 1970 was the last year. I'd still love to have a 1970 2000 with the Solex carbs and a 1970 240Z to go with it. Dreamin' on.

Indeed!
My friend and mechanic built his around 2000, still like new, and recently upgraded brakes and coil overs - 524" with 600hp, 4 speed and 3.25 gear, it is INSANE! just get's hot in glaring sun, wants a roofed car too...

Here's one more from me. I took this picture in 1982 or 3. That's a 1971 Buick Skylark Custom that I bought for $100. (The Marauder and Datsun are under the covers) I put about 10,000 miles on the tired 350 4V until it puked, then bought a junkyard 455 out of an Electra for $75 and turned it into a poor man's GS. Holy cow did that thing go! I could burn one tire for blocks. Had a leak at one exhaust port and made a loud tick. What a sleeper.

Here's my first car, a 72 Cutlass S. 350 Rocket, bucket seats. Pics taken in January 81, right before I had a stroke, lost my mind and sold it. :shake:
I wish I had the front wheel trim ring on it. These are the only pics I ever took of it. It had 116,000 miles on it and was still mint. Girlfriend sold shortly thereafter as well.
But I had some good memories in that car, if you know what I mean......

taken in 1969, my sisters new Cougar XR-7 351 automatic
I'm the tool ready to play with the shifter - I'll ever forget the rides in that car at 7 years old.
She had too much trouble with it, and got a plain brown 70 Skylark instead....

In the 70's, 80's and until I got it in mid 90's - a 66 GTO dark blue, black vinyl top car sat sinking behind a house in town. Rumored to be a true tri-power 4 speed car, that the guy built and sreet raced in early 70's. He lost his licence and parked it, EVERYONE tried to buy the car. He was straaanggeee...
no pics, sorry.
I finally talked him into selling, started getting it to run = it had dome pistons, big solid lifter cam, fender well exit headers, ladder bars, the original tri-power engine/trans still, I ran the numbers = factory options = wood wheel, gauges, tinted glass, 3.90 posi (had 12 bolt 4.88 now), transitor ignition, rally 1 wheels, mtallc brakes - nice car!
I got it to run - mean!
It was too far rusted for me, but I had to get it away from death in that yard! I traded it to a guy that fully restored and still has it.
I got this: 40 Chevy Special Deluxe coupe. He had done it in the 70's with a 421 tri-power Pontiac, TH400, 12 bolt posi 3.08, 67 GTO seats and shifter, Pontiac hood tach, lighted hood ornament etc. Looked like a Pontiac.
I got it as rolling body, even, for the rusted 66 GTO car.
I built a 455 Pontiac, mild solid roller cam ~475hp motor and used it for a summer - faded paint from the 70's, wild gold and plaid interior, 53 Chevy drum front brakes, stock steering - ZERO rust body!
Stupid, stupid, stupid...
