I just finished uploading 4 pictures of my torn apart engine. Kinda hard to see the valve damage, but a close look at cylinder 4 and 8 aree revealing.
Check out the Engine, drivetrain gallery.

Wow! Not too pretty, but it is under the extended warrantee, right? I still believe anyone with this kind of damage should get the Lightening engine as the official factory replacement! Make up for the emotional stress of the loss.

With the 4 valves, Ill bet it flows better than a Hemi.

Paul...I like your idea of the Lightening engine. Yes, it is under extended warranty. Will stop at the dealer in the morning on my way home from work. The Ford ESP adjuster was to inspect the engine Wednesday. BTW, Ford ESP told my service writer that they have been having problems with the thermostat and then shortly after the engine.....As if we on this board didn't know.....Go figure....

Well, I don't know what to tell you about that. The thermostat, when it fails, is "supposed" to fail in the open position so that overtheat doesn't happen. Of course you won't have any heat either. The car had almost 50K when it failed. The dealer fixed that also, so all paper work was there.

Can't make it before next Thursday as I have no MM
When we make the next get together, lets make it closer to Baltimore, running to DC was quite a haul from my house. Dot says anytime....she liked Bennigan's and the Cruise In.....

Yep! New motor will be in the shop on Monday, so they say. They told me today I can expect to have the car back by Thursday or Friday. And your right, the pistons and heads were ugly.
While I'm on the subject, it you look at one of the block pictures, you'll see a speck of white in the valley between banks. Seems there is enough room for critters to get under the intake and build their own warm and cozy homes. The tech was pulling a handfull of the stuff when I asked hime what it was....
They can squeeze in under the alternator and front of the intake.

Stopped by the dealer yesterday. No engine! Seems there is a shortage of Marauder engines due to the thermostat problem. That's what the rep is telling him. Only two engines were availabe, one each in Texas and Arizona. Engine should be in town either Thursday or Friday, depending on which one is shipped. At least I'm saving the miles buy driving the dreaded Taurus.......

Well, let's see..."Merc's" MM has been in the shop for 9 days for transmission issues. Bummer.....Mine's been in the shop since Tuesday 4/20 for engine issues, yet to be resolved. Still awaiting the engine delivery which could have been late Friday. So, should have the beast back by the end of this week if motor was delivered. The underpowered Taurus is starting to get the best of me.......

Those white colored exhaust valves on one of the cylinder heads has me wondering. I say that because that usually indicates a lean condition in those particular cylinders.

What were some of the symtoms for you to bring the car in, in the first place? Was it black or blue smoke coming from the tailpipe when you start you MM or is it smoking when you take off hard? :coolman:

There was no smoking tail pipe in either instance above. The thermostat stuck closed in February as mentioned. A few weeks ago, it started to miss, or shutter if you will. I could feel the engine shaking while stopped with the brakes on or at idle in park, and when the brakes were released, prior to accellerating, you could feel the car lurch. I feared the worst, as being an old gearhead, I can remember back in my youth when I had a bad plug or cylinder. I was hoping for plugs or a bad coil pack, but that was not to be. Bad comperssion and bad valves were the cause of the shaking at idle, and surge/lurch. New engine was to be delivered late Monday afternoon. Will stop by the shop on my way home from work this morning and see if it's there.
Need to get the car back and on the road. Need to get the new engine broke in before I visit Dennis in early June. Would like to make sure it's okay before we put the mods on.
