View Full Version : Hibernate your Marauder Yes or No?

MERCULES

So winter is close at hand or as in my case in full swing.

Two questions

#1 Do you park your marauder for the winter, yes or no?

#2 Do you drive it in the snow, and if so share your experiences of a Marauder in the snow?

Personally I hibernate my silver birch until late April as I cannot imagine subjecting it to the salt, although I think it would be a blast to drive in the snow.

I actually miss a rear wheel drive car in the winter, but fear the salt .

I thought about posting a thread similar to yours but you beat me to it. But to answer your question, no hibernation for mines. I have three cars but no garage so even if I don't drive it, the weather would pound the paint all winter. My methods are: keep good wipers, wash as soon as the snow clears, keep ice off, and wash when its dry outside. I never let the tank go under half. Oh, and the BF Goodies are pretty good in the snow when driving. Since I joined the site, I learned that taking air out the tire would help the car hook better. So I might try this method for the snow. The only problem I have is when the snow gets as tall as the willis tower. I hate digging it out.

I drive a Volvo in the winter and fortunately I can run studs legally on my winter tires which is very helpful on ice, and I always use gas line antifreeze.

Mine is disassembled so yeah you could say its in hibernation. With the mood I've been in it can stay there indefinitely..

Mine as well. Not just for winter though. If it is raining, or the boys have practice/game down the 1/4 mile of dirt/gravel road - then the truck comes out.

No hibernation, but no driving in rain, snow or sprayed road deicing liquid.

used to drive it all winter, winter tires on all 4 corners. now it sits in the winter and I drive a Dodge 4x4. Makes the MM's gas mileage look real good.

I will park it for the winter in the morning when I get off work. I just got it back from the body shop today, after waiting 2 extra days for the roads to clear from the first snow. I am going to miss driving it, I went almost 2 weeks without it while it was getting repaired and that seemed like forever.

I drive my black trilogy all year unless they are calling for 4"+, then I break out my AWD Safari.

DD for me up until this year as it waits to be repaired. The original tires were awful in the snow. The new Firestone's are fantastic, it is as if I put snow tires on the car.

I'll drive it in the winter if the roads are dry and the salt residue is gone. If the roads/weather are nice, it gets driven any time of the year. :burnout::burnout:

I put on snow tires and that is about it.

I used to drive it all the time in the winter and it wasn't the worst thing I've ever driven on snowy roads (that dubious honor goes to a 1988 2wd F250 flatbed truck), but it wasn't something I particularly enjoyed with all of our hills.

Now it comes out in decent weather and winter driving duties are given to my 4x4 F150

My Silver Birch winters in a heated garage under two car covers and several furniture pads. Battery tender under the hood and an open container of moisture absorbent in the passenger compartment.

Even though we dont get much snow, when we do I drive the wife's sonata, FWD is a lot better in the snow.

plus most of the time everything shuts down here in the "south" and I don't have to go to work anyway

You store it similar to how I do, all wrapped up and moisture absorbent pots throughout and several bounce dryer sheets just in case a rogue mouse shows up.

It feels awful putting it away, but there's no feeling like it on that first warm spring day when you unwrap it! :burnout:

I can't subject a rare nice car like this to horrible wintry weather. That's what the Escalade EXT is for. 6.0L GM small block + AWD she practically begs to be driven. I even leave the factory 22s on. Next month Bullet will go into hibernation and come out if we get a crazy 70° day like we had Monday

So mine has stayed outside since 2006. My paint is pretty decent I would say. This year will be the first it goes into storage again.

First time the roads are salted until rain clears them in spring. It's when I buy parts i don't need :)

Another daily driver here, for now. Just bought it and it mostly needs a full resto. Paint is in not great shape rust starting on the inner door panels. Not too happy but it was really cheap.
My last Marauder got around good in the snow with all season tires. I got some snow tires off of craigslist this year. I cant find a set of cop steelies like i wanted.

If I had to I'd get a set of P71 wheels from 06-11' 17s would look more natural than the old 16s and have better tire choices.

They are the Firehawks, better dry handling, great wet traction, better snow traction, much quieter and better wear then the crap BFGs the car came with.
