View Full Version : HELP - Headlight Gremlins?

Headlights are acting weird. Headlights go off (foglights remain on) when the turn signal is applied (sometimes) ... sometimes they just go off. Bright lights will come on when the stalk is pulled (flash to pass feature), but will not stay on if brights are turned on. Problem is intermittent.
Can't figure out ... is it the headlight switch (doubt it), the turn signal switch (maybe) ... or some relay (hellifino).
Anyone have this problem?

Save yourself the hassle with Ford and have Fastblackmerc repair yours. It is under warranty but there are none available. Right now they are either putting in the Dorman piggyback unit or an aftermarket reman LCM. Either way it WILL fail again because the relays can't handle the amperage.

Right now there is a 6+ week backorder on the LCM replacement through FoMoCo. Actual delay is probably more on the + side than on the 6 weeks side.
Had my LCM tested yesterday when the MM was in to replace the A/C accumulator that had corroded and was leaking. The LCM met the criteria for replacement under the extended warranty but the aftermarket fix won't correct my problem (autolights ON-OFF not working properly). It needs the Ford LCM replacement.
Will probably be looking for the FastBlackMerc fix soon; but no real rush since the car won't see much action until next March-April.

I have repaired ones in stock, ready for immediate shipping.
Each repaired LCM has a heavy duty (40A) external relay for the headlights and upgraded 3 internal relays from 10A to 15A. I warranty my work & parts for the lifetime of the vehicle.

fastblackmerc .... Is the Dorman a waste of money? What do you charge for yours? Do you have a write up (with pics) on how to replace using your unit? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the help on this. It is the Lighting Control Module (LCM). Ford is fixing it under recall. It's a different part number (and supposed to be an upgrade as opposed to a replacement).
The bad news is that it is on back order for at least two weeks.

I really hope your wipers don't go wacky next! Years ago it was a real mess for me.

I had no trouble getting my new LCM-1 4W-7Z-13C788-BC installed at the local dealership. RECALL CAUSE: E14N01C AUTH CODE: 008932.
