Richard Benjamin: No ‘white privilege,’ just responsibility

December 18, 2014

The recent crusade seems to be “white privilege.” I had two white parents, so I am white also. That’s not white privilege; that’s genetics.

I am a high school graduate and never got in serious trouble. That wasn’t white privilege; that was good parenting. I spent 30 years in the Marine Corps. That was American patriotism, not white privilege.

My wife and I have three children, all after we were married. That’s not white privilege; that’s good morals. The food they ate, the clothes on their backs and the roof over their heads, we provided without taking other people’s money. That was not white privilege; that was parental responsibility.

My children have blessed us with seven grandchildren, all born after marriage and provided for by their parents.

Parenting, morals and personal responsibility define character, and character will open doors, not color. These are “white privileges” everyone can have.

Richard Benjamin

I think an "AMEN" would be in order.

It is as simple as that.

In the USA one only need do three things to avoid a life of poverty;
1) Graduate from HS
2) Do not have children out of wedlock
3) Get a job, any job.

It all comes down to decisions made. Not everyone is wise enough to realize what they are doing, especially if it's wrong.

This is good logic considering most of your State or city drug programs have a 12 step program ( 2nd Genesis) so the 3 step program above mentioned is a lot easier.and would cancel out the later in time .
