I have a 2007 p71 (cop car crown vic). I am searching for a used transmission for my project. When I search this year (I beleive 06-08 to be the same) I get three options...

A.T., Police, (ID 7W7P-CA)
A.T., exc. Police; Sport package, (ID 7W7P-DA)
A.T., exc. Police; w/o Sport package; (ID 7W7P-AA)

Trying to figure out what might the difference be between the 3. The police and sport package units seem very difficult and few and far between. While the exc. police and w/o sport package are plentiful.

I don't plan to run the oe converter and plan on jmodding it. I can imagine the internals are the same with difference being in valve body and converter. Just looking for some clarification thanks.

As far as I know the valve body is the same on all. Police units use a different size converter than civilian models and police units have a longer tailshaft since they use the shorter aluminum driveshaft, civilian uses shorter tail shaft and longer steel driveshaft

Tailshafts can be switched..longer tail shaft on civilian trans to use aluminum driveshaft has been done numerous times on Crownvic.net

A.T., Police, (ID 7W7P-CA)
A.T., exc. Police; Sport package, (ID 7W7P-DA)
A.T., exc. Police; w/o Sport package; (ID 7W7P-AA)

The Police transmission has a long out put shaft and long extension housing.

The sport and non-police will have the short output shaft and short extension housing.

The sport transmission will have a different shift lever for the floor/console shifter.
