There is a place by me called Georgia Arms that sells .380 in bulk but are you looking for something like hollow points?

Best penetration and expansion HPs go with Federal Hydra-Shok 90. Hydra-Shok is still one of the best most consistent HP available. Not a ton of offerings that are suitable for .380. Other notable rounds Fiocchi Extrema XTP 90gr, Honady Custom 380 90gr XTP (NOT CRITICAL DEFENSE) Precision One 90gr XTP, CorBOn 90gr SD38090/20 although it over penetrates in denim tests.

If you noticed, 3 of those share the same Hornady XTP bullet. If you reload or know someone that does you could load your own XTPs and find the best powder charge to suit your needs.

There are others that I like better than Hydra-shok such as Federal HST and Honady Critical Duty but they aren't offered in .380.

A little off topic but besides the .380

Does anyone have a good line on .357 Magnum ammo (hollow point &/or not)
I currently have been 38 special hollow points thru my revolver cuz locally that has been all I have been able to source..

Thank you in advance if anyone has a good online source etc... & a recommend brand etc...

CORBON's Traditional Jacketed Hollow Point ammunition made its reputation with "high velocity" loads. This high velocity, combined with our exclusively designed, jacketed hollow point bullets, makes for a very effective self-defensive load. Penetration and expansion in our test medium of 10% ballistic gelatin are excellent; expansion is consistently 2 times the original diameter of the bullet. Depending on caliber and bullet weight, penetration is between 9 and 14 inches.

At CORBON, we believe that velocity is king! Higher energies enhance bullet performance and increase stopping power.
Caliber: 380 Auto
Bullet Wt.: 90gr CORBON Self-Defense JHP
Velocity: 1050fps
Energy: 220ftlbs
Test Barrel Length: 2.5 Inches

20 rounds per box.
American Made.
American Owned.

Stick to the major brands and you'll be fine. Avoid the off brand "magic" ammo. Money will be better spent for range time/training. Shot placement is key.

After watching the video and looking at the test results, these look like the "winners":

1 - Precision One 90grn XTP
2 - Fiocchi Extrema 90grn, XTP JHP
3 - Hornady Custom 90grn, XTP JHP
4 - Federal Hydra-Shok 90grn, JHP
5 - HPR Hyper Clean 90grn, XTP JHP

I personally use Sig Sauer defense ammo in my pistols.

Really its whatever. I look for nickle plated casings which are pretty much standard among defense ammo. Hollow point.

Be sure to shoot a few boxes of the ammo you intend to carry at the range to ensure there are no malfunctions. Often hollow points can jam when feeding compared to FMJ's

I've heard good things about Corbon.....

Until I started reloading over 25 years ago I was using Corbon for their high velocity 45acp rounds. I now use 6.6 grains of WW 231 behind Spear 200 gr jhp bullets. Clocks at 1080fps 15 feet from the muzzle. Over 5000 rounds with 0 failure to feed!

Please post your impressions of the Glock 42 once you've put those 500 rounds through it. Quite interested.

How do you like the 42? Thinking of adding it to my personal equipment. I had a different 380 that I carried for years, but a friend wanted it, so now just carry 27 and 22.

380 ACP - The top rounds in this category were the Federal 90 grain Hydra-Shok and the CorBon 90 grain JHP+P which both rated a 70% one shot stop rating. While Federal 90 grain FMJ ammo was used in a whopping 245 shootings, it only achieved 55% one shot stops.

From an examination of a database on people killed by being shot.

When I put my pants on I strap on my G29.10MM,no doubts about penetration or stopping power with Federal Hydra Shock or Double Tap ammo.

So far I like it. Same Glock quality in a package that almost disappears in your hand.

Jim, I'm looking at the 42 for my wife. But I can't find a range with one to rent. We will buy plenty of ammo for the weapon plus our bellies us if you let us join you at the range.

I use the Hornady in my carry .380 Micro Desert Eagle. Both have performed flawlessly, & the Micro is a very good size to disappear into almost any pocket, holster or console

I've read about them but I feel that falls into the "gimmick" category. I think your OK with any round that has an "XTP" projectile.

I agree the RIP ammo is a gimmick. I like the expansion of Federal HST for 9/40/45 wish they made it for .380. XTP is a great bullet design. I would stick with any XTP, Hydra-Shok or CorBon. Can't go wrong there.

yeah, must be a gimmick as you can't get them right now, the LEO's get first dibs and they are the ones who have been buying them up.

Read Gun Tests magazine's test article about .380 ammo for pocket pistols. They pretty much prefer FMJ for adequate penetration which I agree with.
I think the G42 is THE most comfortable Glock I've ever picked up and probably the best .380 available,BUT,
for my money my Ruger LC9 is not much if any larger with a larger selection of known good stopping power cartridges which are more widely available than .380 and makes a terrific pocket pistol,as does my CM40,(although the CM40 IS slightly larger and I've only seen one female who can safely work the slide).
My LC9 fits nicely in a DeSantis or other "pocket scabbard" in my Levi pocket (which has the tightest pocket of any of my jeans) or other pants without "printing".
I had a tiny Ruger LCP that I never fired, the darn thing isd nice but tiny.A friend of mine wanted a tiny pistol to carry in his motorcycle vest post so he bought it from me.Now I'm not a little guy,6'3" and 275 and he's a couple of inches taller. The gun disappears in our mitts, when we've gone out shooting after about 20 or so rounds apiece we put it away,it's tiring to shoot something that small and past 15-20 it's a pita to hit tin cans with. It's just too tiny.As a very last resort, which is why we carry,it's better than nothing, but I feel a 9MM is much better.
Again, the G42 IS nice, but I don't feel the caliber is adequate and size wise there are a lot of 9's out there that are as easily concealable.

FBM has a G42. This thread is about finding personal defense ammo for his .380. The G42 is much better than the LC9 IMHO... LC9 has a terrible trigger, LC9s maybe not but it still is not a Glock.
