Got my first SS check today so I guess I am really retired. And it feels good to just do what I want. No time clock and no stress.

My company "retired" me in 2007.
While I miss the travel and the kick of driving home from work on a Friday afternoon, I don't miss the Sunday evening blues.

Congrats and enjoy!
Improper planning during my youth has me scheduled to expire before I retire.

I thought I retired two years ago. So why am I teaching full time at a college?
answer: because there are no chemistry or physics teachers (professors) out there.
Just when you think you are free.. they pull you back!

I had a friend call me and ask would I do audit on a FAA 145 repair station. I told him I am not sure then he told me how much he would pay me all my expense and $100.00 an hour. Takes about three days. Now I am thinking.

Started to write a big CONGRATS TO YOU... And then read the rest of the threads.
DO IT!
DO IT When you want to do it, and polightly decline with "I am already booked this week" when you don't want to.
You are at the very zenith of earning power, and when getting to "chose" your jobs, it alleviates the "having to do it" internal stress.
Take one or two jobs a month if you want, or none at all. $100 per hour (to start) isn't a bad place to be. and it sure helps detail out (supercharge) the Marauder.
Either way--you are in the drivers seat! Congrats!!!

Being out of my field, 30 years in technology/telecommunications, for over eight years, I couldn't do my old job anymore, assuming it even exists.

I retired in April 2012 and in October of 2014 I met up with some of my old coworkers. They told me that the system I used to work on was in bad shape and wanted to know if I wanted to come back to work as a contractor. So as of Jan. 5th I started back to work. Now I am trying to decide how many days a week I am going to work. I am doing 5 days now since I am training some new technicians but I hope to go down to three or four days a week. So far they are treating me pretty good and if that changes I sure do like the option of saying see Ya!! and go home.

I retired from IBM after 30 years.. didn't want to put up with the B.S. anymore.
Working as a contractor, 40 hours a week, making 50% more salary (benefits are included), and working 75% less (actual work).
