CVN was a pleasant community, I've been on there for 6 years and always enjoyed it. During recent years it turned to crap with the administration team slagging but the knowledge base is still very useful for me, Marauders and Crown Victorias aren't too dissimillar in the end if it comes to troubleshooting problems so it helped me a lot. I'm saddened to see it fade away.

Long before MM.net, there was CVN and CVO and those of us who were the first to modify the Panther Platforms.

I've met a lot of people on there over the years and several are still good friends of mine.

The knowledge that has been posted on that site over its history is huge, and whether we like it or not, it is very applicable to the Marauder.

I do not post on the site anymore and do not know what the current culture is.

However, people bashing it just to bash it is not needed.

Lately the calccw.com forum has been down about once a month. When it comes back there is normally 1 or 2 days worth of messages missing.

The software is vBulletin like this forum. Not sure what CVN is.

Generally, missing messages means there was a database problem.

As an old computer guy, the key is backup, backup, backup!

I care also, I've been a member there since early 2002. I've learned a lot about Panthers in general, read a ton of great and funny threads and met several members local to me. It's a shame that the site has gotten to where it is, but there is a lot of worthwhile information there.

I've also noticed that the most vocal complaining about CVN comes from those that have been banned or had their feathers ruffled.

Well I always loved Panthers ever since I knew they existed and I simply wanted to see more of them, looking at pictures online wasn't enough and I wanted to talk to actual owners that's how I ended up on CVN. I actually talked to the site owner Steve for quite a while before who encouraged me to join because at first I thought it was a somewhat silly idea, that was long before he disappeared into hibernation. CVN was always fun back in those days, their members were kind and welcoming and it also helped me to improve my English because English classes in German schools just suck. Well there's a bit of a story for you.

It is now after 6 years of practice, I've also been living in the UK for a year which helped too so I don't have a German accent anymore, does have its advantages in some regions when you can't tell your nationality by your accent.

Either Steve says he is willing to sell and someone buys it, or he comes back and starts approving the metric ****-ton of new members that are awaiting approval which then (hopefully) breathes new life into the community.

What I am about to say is probably common knowledge, but so people know what the remaining active moderators had attempted over a year ago...the last time we brought up selling CVN, Steve's response was that he wasn't ready to turn over the reins "yet". Unfortunately, he went MIA again a couple months later. He has a thread waiting for him in the Mod forum when he comes back to address the outages as well as some other things.

"When" he comes back is more than likely a big "if" as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to speak out of turn (but probably already have, so...oh well). I can say he's had a history of health problems and assume, as such, that that's what is causing this extended absence.

I realize I'm not well-loved by everyone in the Panther community (and that some of you in this thread vilify me elsewhere online), but please do understand that I have been trying for years to effect more positive change on CVN than negative - meets, tech, etc.

Unfortunately my hands, and the hands of the other moderators, are tied.

The downtime is caused by the hosting company. The tech support (which used to be quite good) has gone down the crapper lately and they're hard to get in touch with (hmmm, maybe like CVN? :D ). Anyway, when CVN goes down, the host makes claims that the server is on...but for some reason Steve can't communicate with it. It apparently takes some back-and-forth with tech support to get them to bounce the server and repair the file system. When that happens, Steve can access the database and get things running again. He says he's shopping a new hosting company.

I'm sure we all understand health issues, server issues, time involved to maintain the site but since so many people rely on the site it's time for him to pass the torch if he can no longer keep it reliable. I'm sure many of us would consider buying it, me included, but keeping it and not being able to maintain it is doing no good to anyone. I can't imagine advertising income from Reinhart and BOC could be anything subtaintial, especially from their point of view with the site up and down almost daily.

Its gold when you Google a problem you are having on your CV and 9 times out of 10 there is a solution or a member with similar problem that has posted there. Like I said above it NEEDS to be reliable, I know it has helped me with issues at least a dozen times. What REAAALY sucks is when you Google and issue, and you see a thread link to CVN with your solution or similar post, then you click on the link and BAM! server down! Doh!!

I always keep forgetting that in the States a Crown Vic is just nothing special and you can pick them up for dirt cheap money. Probably like what a clapped out Mercedes E Taxi would be over here if even that whilst a Marauder would then be an AMG version so I can see where you are coming from and I'm also well aware of the reputation that MM owners have over at CVN just like they are seen as the cheapos as you said yourself but I was always under the impression it's all a bit of friendly banter and messing around. I would never get butthurt about that kinda stuff like a few people on here obviously are.

Since I also own an Australian Ford, I used to frequent their forums quite a bit and the stuff that goes on in the Australia car scene is proper madness beating which is the reason I'm not there anymore but after that experience the stuff that upsets Panther people now just looks comical to me. That's just my 2 cents though, happy for you to ingore them and commence as you were.

I said there are exceptions . Just the general attitude is anti marauder and telling people to put those bumper covers on and add a interceptor badge and a push bar thru. Not everyone is low cost. I wouldn't let it get to you. This isn't a bad place, you just have to take some members with a grain of salt. There are a lot of good people here as well as other sites. You have a very nice Marauder, in a country that has the autobahn, the Nürburgring, etc. I'm jealous.

According to my correspondence, Steve says it's coming back, albeit slower than planned.
