After thinking all is good with my car.. I noticed on my x4 the voltage was sitting at 11 volts and steadily dropping.. pulled in a mcdonalds and car finally cut off..looked underneath the hood and the alternator wire was melted where I had the connector for the alternator extension for the trilogy...

So far you guys have been a huge help with this install but can this car give me a break haha

Also as a note I did unhook the battery and car was reading 13 volts so I bought new battery and nope it still read 11 volts when hooked up

You can hear the engine bog down when the negative terminal is on the battery

I had a issue like that after my eaton install the ground for the alternator melted had to install a bigger thicker ground

so the extension has to be thicker? And after you installed it it ran 13 volts perfectly?

Use at least 4 gauge wire. Solder and heatshrink tube all connections.

If you used the Trilogy supplied hardware to do the extension you might want to reconsider.

This is pretty much what I ended up using with the stock size wire with no issues.

I also drilled a couple holes on the backside and soldered it all up.

Run a dedicated ground from the alternator case to the negative terminal just for fun. You can never have too many grounds.

Been there. Run a 4 awg battery cable with the connectors attached at the factory (for simplicity) from the alternator case directly to the frame. No need to connect to the battery. 5 minute job and you will never look back. $6.
