View Full Version : lost my wheel lug key socket
As the saying goes, "Too many cooks spoil the broth".
Changed the tire after a flat at the police station, the boy's and girl's in blue wouldn't let me do any work, bless 'em, but after I got home I realized that the "lug unlocking socket" wasn't in my tool bag.
Returned to the station, but a search didn't turn up the missing socket. I guess it was left on the wheel and fell off on the trip home.
Now what? How do I get the locking lug nut off so I can put a new tire on?
FLAPS don't carry them. Dealer? It's Sunday so they aren't open.
Thanks,
RF Overlord

Your locking lug set should have come with a small card or something similar with the set's serial number. Contact the lug's manufacturer and they should be able to send you a new socket.

You did get a duplicate key... right?????
FLAPS should carry a "universal" key/socket that you pound on the locking lug and remove it. Problem is it will destroy the lug.

Discount tire can get it off in a couple minutes if you can't find the key , or a lug nut remover.

Vice -grips if all else fails
Bob, thanks for the info, the lock ID card was in the jacket of the maintenance manual. I can register and reorder.

Glad you found it Pat!!
I swap my front KUMHOS side to side at oil changes and have a locking lug nut on each......got them swapped and took it for a drive to make sure it was smooth!!:)
I drove all the way to Walmart (10 miles) and parked......got out and noticed one lug nut looked like it backed off........WOW....it was the key that I forgot and left on the locking nut....I touched it and it fell off....HOW LUCKY WAS THAT!!:D
BTW....I taped my key replacement code inside the glove box for future reference......."CRS" is gettin' worse!!:shake::(

I have the Gorilla "system" locks. The first thing I did was order another key ($10.00). Keep one in the car and one in my tool box.
Ordered the replacement key over the phone, the card had all the right numbers, good customer service from McGard, Inc.
Price has gone up over the years, now $14.00 including shipping. Snail Mail.
