hi all

I purchased a 03 marauder awhile ago but hadn't really driven it much until recently, my overhead console display no longer works, can anyone give me some direction as to things I could check like fuses etc as to why the display no longer comes up?

also the bulb in my voltmeter guage is burnt out but I cant seem to remove the guage from the pod under the dash in order to change it, is there some trick to it?

any info would be appreciated

Thanks

Ron

I can fix the compass for you and supply green LED bulbs for the gauge pod.

PM me.

Removing the gauge pod is a little fiddly, but no tools are needed.

Put the shifter in D (or lower) to give you some room. Grab the "wings" of the pod and pull down and towards you. There are alligator clips that hold the wings of the pod to the dashboard. It does require a bit of force, but just be ready when they release.

The top part of the pod (above the gauges) has a "lip" that fits into the dash, so you need to manoeuvre it towards you, hence moving the shifter back.

It's kinda hard to describe, you just have to fiddle with it.

I'm just gonna chime in on this thread because I actually have the same problem with my overhead display. Now I was wondering if the thing is in fact broken or if it just can't be adjusted correctly with the car being overseas?

I have the same problem with the overhead display.

If the compass doesn't light up (yes it's only a compass), then there is a loose (sometimes) or missing (most of the time) resistor.

I can fix it for you. $10.00 which included return shipping.

PM me if interested.

FYI... the compass should work anywhere in the world... it's only a compass.

I'm going to pull the console down and see if wires / resistors are loose

Its a solder joint that has come loose, which is very hard to see.

Correct. I actually burned my finger on a partially unsoldered resistor.

Just an FYI.... When I repair them I always resolder all the remaining resistors.

Found my problem...
Where the screw driver tip is, there is nothing there

Whomever Ford uses to build their modules does some really poor soldering.

Window switches, BMSCs, Compasses (Compii?)...digital dash clusters...

A lot of Ford's wiring stuff comes from Mexico, at least it has before..My underhood truck wiring in a 1995 F350 says assembled in mexico on it.

It's not a wiring problem. It's a soldering problem.

Since most companies have to comply with RoHS we will see more and more of this. RoHS limits or eliminates the use of lead in solder, the resulting product has no flexibility that lead used to supply. In a stationary part that's not a problem. When you subject a part where lead free solder is used to an environment that is subject to repeated cycles of heating, cooling and vibration the solder joint, which is the weakest link, is subject to failure.

I use solder with the highest content of lead I can find in all my repairs.
