Some pictures from last weekends wash and detail job, only got around to processing them now. My Audi looks so small next to the big yank tank in my driveway.
I got me a small motorcycle plate for the front as well which is techically not legal but thanks to my contacts in the license plate industry I manage to get away with it.
I also removed the reflectors on the bumper which looked awful. Was quite a pain to get the adhesive off, I may need to put them back on for the safety inspection so I'll be getting some magnetic ones to put somewhere temporarily.

Then after that I went out for a little cruise into the countyside and took some more pictures.

I notice your sig says you have 3.88 gears...i didn't think there was any such ratio for the Ford 8.8...

You removed the rear bumper inserts? If so, those were a aftermarket add-on item and not something from factory. Just a visual upgrade mod for owners.

No not the bumper inserts.... there was reflective pieces on the rear bumper cover, presumably for higher visual awareness. Check some of his other threads and photos and you'll see what I mean. I don't know what Germany's laws are but I expect those reflectors were some sort of safety add on

Is the rear fog light required?

Unless German laws have changed since I was there if you have fog lights on the front you must have the rear fog light as well.

Funnily enough the most common question I get from people pretty much every time is if this was a former FBI car. When I drive to work with a suit and sunglasses on people think I'm some kind of an NSA agent, it's actually quite amusing and I have to hold myself back to not laugh at some of the looks I get. I also get to hear a lot of MIB quotes occasionally.
Yes there's 3.88 gears in this one which I've now learnt is a very odd ration for Panthers, previous owner had them put it in so it was already done over here.
The reflectors I speak of are two adhesive reflector pads they stuck on the rear bumper. Because the Marauder tail lights are tinted, their reflectors do not comply with our laws so technically I have to run additional reflectors which, let's face it, look absolutely retarded. I will need to put them back on for the annual safety inspection hence why I get a set of magnetic ones that I can stick on just for that, otherwise I will just run it without. Since the tail lights still reflect I don't think any cops is gonna notice they are slightly less bright than the norm.
The additional rear fog light however is mandatory, I couldn't get away without it. Every vehicle is required to have one on the rear driver side regardless if it's equipped with front fog lamps or not. However I'm planning to find a way to rewire it into the left reverse light housing so it won't be visible and use a very bright LED bulb so it would shine through the tinted cover clear enough, any ideas if this would be possible?

That would be really cool Adam especially since my rear parcel shelf looks like this ;)

At first I ran a Chicago Motors frame which was the only one I had laying around, then I got a chrome frame from Galpin Ford in Los Angeles from my friend who worked there on his year abroad.
I'm currently trying to get a set from Ricart Ford in Columbus, Ohio which was the first supplying dealer of my car so I thought it would be quite nice to run a frame from them. I emailed them about it and much to my surprise they even got back with me but they are very slow to do anything so we'll see how it goes.

I may have one STF frame extra laying around. Can't remember if I have one or two. If you strike out with Ricart, let me know; I'm sure I'll be in Cowtown sometime later this year.

Richmond Gears made a 8.8 3.88 gear.
When would the rear fog light actually be used? Ive seen some people (not on this forum) install 3-4" round led puck style lights to the bottom frame rails and wire them in to the reverse lights or a manual switch.

Richmond Gears made a 8.8 3.88 gear. Thanks, Chris. I figured with 3.73 being common, why would anyone make a 3.88...

Yes it is possible. There is room in each taillight housing to add two additional sockets.

No problem, I knew I had seen that number before for the 8.8 but forgot who made it so I looked it up. They don't make it anymore, it was replaced by a 3.89 gear I believe. http://www.richmondgear.com/pdf/Richmond_Catalog_Section1.pdf# page=21

Let me know if you have a spare one Adam and I'm sure we can work something out. And yeah it might be easier if perhaps I could find someone who lives in the area to just pop by there and grab a set of frames for me instead of going through the hassle of dealing with them online.
According to the law the rear fog light must be used in case of heavy fog or rain with visibility decresed to 50 meters or less, it is illegal to use it when the visibility exceeds 100 meters. Whilst turned on, a general speed limit of 50 kph applies to your vehicle and this is heavily enforced so if you forgot to turn it off and put your foot down on the Autobahn you could end up losing your license for it. Every vehicle manufactured after January 1st, 1991 must be outfitted with a rear fog light, it is to be mounted between your license plate and the driver taillight at adjustable height and the distance from the fog light to a brake light must exceed 10 cm to avoid confusion; this is why I can't wire it into the taillight and would have to put it into the reverse light housing. Yes, this country likes to make things as complicated as possible.

Seems like drilling a small hole in the back of the reverse light housing for an LED shouldn't be a problem.
Is there any restriction on using the light when visibility isn't reduced? If not, then just wire it into one of the taillight circuits.
Does Germany require DRLs as well?
MGDriver

Yes having your fog light turned on when the visibility exceeds 100 meters will result in a fine and you are limited to 50 kph while its on.
No we don't need DRLs but I would like to wire the amber corner lights up to work as DRLs, I really like the look when they are illuminated with a faint glow.

This site has a nice kit that'll do that for you:

I used the universal DRL kit on my Grand Marquis, and thinking about using it on the Marauder.

A little shot from the weekend that I thought you guys might appreciate. This is the Wewelsburg triangular castle, a local sight in my area which has a long history most notable prior and during WWII where it was used as an SS headquarter by the Nazis and also housed a concentration camp. Nowadays it houses a museum and a memorial site which we visted the other day so I decided to take some shots. I'm sure that pretty much 70 years ago there was also a yank tank parked here as the camp was freed by American troops.
For those who are interested to read more about it click HERE (http://www.wewelsburg.de/en/index.php) or HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wewelsburg)
