Older gray haired gentleman owned it since new, way past retirement age. Showed me the window sticker, was sold for $54k and he paid cash for it. Crazy! Them older folks sure love these big old cars. Must be the ride. Hard to believe that he was only asking 3 grand for it and willingly accepted 20 100 dollar bills.
Says it has an overheating problem and his mechanic couldn't figure it out.

Sup Serge! Congrats on your 12 year old clone lol. Welcome to the club! ;)
Crossover tube has air in it I'll bet.. Remove crossover cap, fill, start for 20 seconds and repeat process till you get all the air out.
How many miles?

Hai. I was reading on the burping thing the other day. Gonna try it tomorrow. If that's all it is would be pretty nice.

why did you have to push your Crown Vic home with that Marauder?
my over heating issue was seepage from crossover tube O-ring.
Nice score, hopefully an easy fix!:D

Just did the burping. That thing was full of air. Also the radiator fan never kicked in before the thermostat opened. Is this normal? At what temperature does the rad fan normally kick in?
I even tried setting the EATC to max ac to force the fan to come on and nothing. I wonder if the fan is shot.
Had the car less than 24 hour and already had a guy down the street stop and talk to me about it. Guess these things do attract attention.

keep looking into the fan - could be the issue.

After I replaced my bad thermostat I kept an eye on it with a scanner, and it seems to be around 215 that it comes on.

The fan indeed comes on. I turned the ac on and saw it spinning. Looked like it wasn't going very fast though.

Holy crap Serge bought a MM.
Never thought I'd see that day lol
Serge
03-30-2015, 04:34 PM
The deal was too good to pass up.
So anyway, today after work I topped up the coolant crossover and let the car warm up for a good hour. I revved it a bunch of times and I can't get it to overheat. The needle sits just a hair above the center of the gauge. I guess I could go take it around the block a couple of times and get on it a bunch of times but at this point I can't replicate overheating issue. Granted it took a lot of coolant and a bunch of air did come out.
Serge
03-30-2015, 05:02 PM
I don't know how much abuse I gotta give this thing to get it to overheat but I just spent an hour outside to get it up to full operating temp then revved it several times, took it around a block a put the pedal to the floor a couple of times and had it up to 50 mph and that needle doesn't move past center of the gauge. Unless there is a hairline crack somewhere that takes hours to show itself I think the overheating issue is resolved.

03-30-2015, 05:57 PM
Just make sure you keep a eye on the temp. Congrats
Congratulations, you got a perfectly running MM for a price cheaper than a retired CVPI with simular miles. I knew I should've waited lol, great score.

Do you have an issue with your purchase ?.
Being it's been almost 8 years - a monetary refund would be out of the question
But if you're that unhappy & wish to send it back .....
I'd be willing to give you a store credit as a gesture of good will.

Why make a point of saying how old the seller was, and how smart you are? Pride in announcing you duped a senior is odd?
My comment has nothing to do with the car, I already owned a Marauder long before your post and before you were on here recently trash talking marauders.

He took the risk, the fact it may have turned out on his favor does not mean he duped the seller. The engine could have easily been completely trashed.
Knowledge is a good thing, I read up on the burp procedure well before I attempted to change my coolant. Even then I had not learned that you need to remove the thermostat to get more than a quart or two of coolant out of the radiator, but I figured that part out after pondering for some time...

Before any more people lose their ****, here are some pics of the car and a list of everything it needs. I bought it very well knowing that it needs work. If overheating issue turned into a major repair this car would've been parted out. It is a 12 year old car with 136000 miles on it. If you think a 12 year old car with that many miles that needs another 2 grand(at least) put into it to be presentable is worth 15k then you are living in a fantasy land. The seller knew very well that it needed work hence the 3k asking price so don't think I duped anyone when I bought it for 2 grand.
The interior cleaned up nicely after spending 3 hours on it.
1. driver side door hinges
2. EATC o-rings
3. FM radio doesn't work
4. rear tires
5. fog light bulbs
6. complete paint job and body work
7. had an overheating problem (appears to be resolved as I just drove it for 30 miles)
8. at least one fender due to rust
9. at least one door due to rust
10. door lock switch or regulator
11. parking brake hardware
12. brakes
13. header panel repair
That's a list of everything I know of at this time. I am sure more will come up.

Interior cleaned up real good... The MM has potential... Basically the previous owner NEGLECTED the MM period... Now throw what it needs nothing fancy and keep it moving... Mine I bought with 154k and needed to be bought back up to par... At the end you appreciate the car more and you had a part in its rejuvenation... As well you your own personal touch just like all my MM brethern do...
