Lol you could but will be very expensive! Would probably be cheaper to buy a used gt500 then to try and retro fit it in a marauder.

well it pretty much is..remove the pilot shaft bearing from the crank...drop motor in, bolt up to trans...bolt up to motor mounts...connect all sensors (a couple have to be extended), mount heat exhanger, load tune, and done

You're missing 16 valves and a lightning is not a marauder. It would never fit without modifying the heater box and losing the power booster.

First of all you used just the block in your lightning, so nothing changed for you. Easy a swap as us swapping a 03-04 cobra engine in an mm, same dimensions...
Deck height on a 5.4 is taller than a 4.6. As stated above there is nothing easy about swapping in a dohc 5.4 into a panther.

ummm, it would most definitely fit...even with the power booster...the motor isnt wider and only 1" taller deck height

shoot, people drop 5.4 4v's into smaller mustang engine bays all the time.

or 5.4 swaps into marauders like

the 5.4 4v in the garage is really for the racecar...but im being tempted to borrow it now...

That's a 2v not a 4v. By being an 1" taller it is also wider... 2v 5.4 swaps have been done. Lightning swaps into panthers have been done. They fit. But they are 2v heads. Plus then you have the intake sticking through the hood.
4v do not without totally hacking the car.

2v or 4v is irrelevant....dimensions of the engine are the same for fitment purposes.

4v heads are wider towards the inside of the motor making the intakes narrower.

A sohc 5.4 is 27" wide, dohc 4.6 26 5/8" very close.
5.4 dohc on the other hand is 28 1/4" wide. I don't see how they are the same.

There is a slight difference in the shape of the valve covers.

the engines themselves are the same width...for example...5.4 2v or 5.4 4v...they both us the EXACT same primary timing chains. If they werent the same dimensions, this wouldnt be possible and wouldnt work.

You have no idea what you're talking about.... Good luck trying it. Your comment in the cam cover removal thread is wrong too, there is no need to remove the brake booster.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Blocks yes, blocks are the same. A 5.4 block is a 5.4 block, same with a 4.6 to another 4.6, the block dimensions are the same.

Anyways Swap a 5.4 DOHC into the marauder and prove us all wrong.
If you have to remove the booster to get the left cam cover off you are doing it wrong.

I called it that thinking hydroboost...w/e

4v valve covers are squared off, 2v/3v are rounded

http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/n-arxsrf/ah98y0h0/products/114/images/322/5.4_3_valve__75482.1405378026. 1280.1280.jpg?c=2

the 4v are more squared off to accommodate the double chains and gears...so it measures 1/2" wider from the tips of the valve covers on each side

the motor itself is not wider...just the very top outer corner of the valve covers

I'm going to say this one more time so you see it. a 4v 5.4 is not the same as a 2v 5.4. The 4v 5.4 is wider, it will not fit without heavy mods.

There was a guy on here a few years back that had a BLK MM and a silver CV aero with a 5.4 in it. Oh yeah, it popped through the hood big time.

There is even the 6.8 Modular V10 swapped into a Vic. Still a 2v.

Ask anyone who owns a Marauder and a Vic, the 4V heads are fricken huge compared to the 2v heads.

Fact of the matter is there is significant modification required to fit a 5.4 2V into a Panther, and there is significantly more modification required to fit a 5.4 4v into a Panther.

I've thought about trying out a 5.4 quad cam swap, but like everyone else has said, that would require a ton of hacking. I went to the junkyard and took measurements, that would be a seriously tight fit. That extra 3" on the deck makes a HUGE difference. Like I said in the beginning of this thread, anything can be swapped in with enough time & money. And all those Mustang guys that supposedly drop in 5.4s all the time, guess how much time & money they dump into that?
