View Full Version : The Robin from Hell

Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction about a bird, a Robin, with a complex.

About eight days ago my next door neighbor noticed his truck was "bombed" on the passenger door and outside mirror.

Further observation disclosed that it was one bird, a Robin, who bounced from the passenger window sill to the mirror and defecated on the truck continually. Now the Robin has graduated to "bombing" both sides of the truck.

No amount of shooing, fake snakes or moving the truck to the street deterred this Robin. I'm worried cause my Marauders is parked in my driveway less than 100 feet away. So far His is the only vehicle affected by this bird from hell even though there are many vehicles parked in the vicinity.

Can anyone explain this behavior, or what can we do to drive the Robin away. Shooting is not an option for several reasons.

Help, please.

Pat

Probably has a nest with eggs or newly hatched in it so it is defending its territory..Robin Omelet anyone? Move the nest, or one of the other listed options

The bird is seeing his reflection, assumes it's an advisory, and attacks. *It is the mating/breeding season.

Maybe cover the mirrors with something, however, it will attach any reflection (e.g. from/in the windows).

Same thing happened to me and my neighbors last year. Killed it with a BB gun.

OK, cover the mirrors and a fake owl with battery operated moving parts. Thanks, I'll implement those two suggestions.

This^^^^^ had the same problem a few years ago. It will stop by itself. Cover the side mirrors.

Yep...the bird sees his reflection and defends his territory against the 'intruder'.
Friend of mine had a woodpecker do the same thing to his truck's side mirrors.
Bad news was that the woodpecker trashed the plastic and the trim on the mirrors/ door windows.
Good news was that it was a Chevy truck.....:)

Bagging the mirrors has defeated the Robin. It's been a couple of days now and no doo doo on my neighbor's truck. Oh, the Robin's still around but he's found something else to do.

If he migrates to my driveway I'll know just how to handle him.

Thanks, fella's and my neighbor, Robert, sends his thanks too.
