View Full Version : Nice Posse article

The Shreveport Times printed an historical and supportive article on our Bossier Parish Sheriffs Posse. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary. I rode in my district Tuesday, been patrolling and delivering food to the elderly shut-ins since 2007. It is a great way to keep in touch with the parish while performing a valuable service.
The Funeral escort alone has grown from a "catchers catch can" to a seven car dedicated operation staffed with Posse drivers, supervised by a Deputy Sargent. They even work the weekends. The service is free and the families are very thankful. This free's up the commissioned deputies to do their law enforcement tasks.
The people of the parish who encounter a funeral procession stop and pay respects, on both sides of the road. Pedestrians render a salute and remove their hats. It's really moving to see this kind of response.
Other Law enforcement departments have visited us with a view of starting up a Posse of their own.

Pat, hope your not going to shoot anyone with your gun instead of a taser! J/K :D
In the Marine Corps they used to drill us in which weapon to use; "this is my rifle, this is my gun. This is for fighting and this is for fun".
Not to worry, I don't carry. But I do have a car radio and a hand held.

Why does a police taser look and feel like a gun? So the suspect thinks you are killing them or so that the officer grabs the wrong tool making a fatal mistake?
The taser should be a stick so it is never, ever mistaken for a gun.
Sorry to be off topic, but every time I see one it makes me angry over the deadly stupidity.

And you would have to be a complete idiot to think there are no idiots who are doing just that.
CA Police - "The police insisted that Torres was trying to kick the windows out so Noriega grabbed what she thought was her taser and shot him in the chest. It turned out to be her 40-caliber Glock instead and she killed Torres."
Missouri - "The officer claims he meant to use his taser, but just had a little oopsie when he pulled out his gun and fired on the unarmed man.
“I’m sorry Butts, I thought I reached for my taser… I didn’t know that I reached for my gun, I thought I had my taser.” he told his victim on the scene, according to the probable cause report.
Shuck also told a fellow officer, “I meant to pull my taser, but pulled my gun”, the report shows.
"An Oklahoma reserve sheriff's deputy accidentally shot and killed a man he was trying to arrest after mistaking his service weapon for a stun gun, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday."
"Former BART officer Johannes Mehserle had cried in open court as he described
shooting the 22-year-old as he lay face down on the train platform.
The 33-year-old claims he mistakenly used his service revolver when he wanted to grab a Taser."
