make sure the insurance of the bus that hit you doesnt low ball you. Its almost better to request an ambulance because it adds on to any injury money you get. they are two separate things, car claim and injury claim. even if your injuries are aches and pains that you can live with they OWE you for that. it may not be much but it usually offsets when they try to screw you on the car. you would be surprized what insurances will do if you put the heat on. tell them you want paid for the car and you want the car back, if they decide to total it. you will probably have to agree to a salvage title but its better than some insurance company yard getting it.

sailsmen
05-19-2015, 06:47 AM
Or you could end up paying for the ambulance and if the bus is owned by a public entity you may never get paid.

It's fixable if you dare. They will total it for sure. Just take the buy back option and they'll throw an offer to you. Depending on the ins co, some are more user friendly than others. Negotiate to your best interest. If you don't want to fix it, I'll buy it and fix it.
All in all, glad you are okay. Glad the arc saved you from a worse situation. Just think what would've happened if you were in a tiny Toyota corolla or something like that.

Spoke to the adjuster and he says his initial thoughts is that the car will be totaled just by the looks of it based on his experience but will know for sure once the info comes back from a 3rd party shop. Bought the car in 2011 with 82k miles now has 96k. If I have the option to keep it I'll part it out. [emoji17]

if the bus is found at fault and their insurance wants to total it demand full market value and the car back... DONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. People roll over when it comes to insurance companies. They work for you, not the other way around. call as many people up the chain of command that you have to. they will get sick of hearing from you.

back in 01 someone totalled my moms MINT 84 lesabre. the other person's insurance , nationwide, tried to to give my parents 1,500. my dad threw the guy out of his shop. another guy came to the house and tried to give my mom a check for 2K for injuries, he was asked to leave as well. after a few weeks somehow my dad got a regional boss on the phone. three big wigs drove from akron ohio to pittsburgh to see the car.. they get there and my dad says "what the hell are you guys doing here..you should be out playing golf enjoying this day but instead you are here over a 1984 LESABRE!!!"

the one guy says "what do you want?"

my dad says " i was gonna ask $20000 for injuries but i know you aren't going to give me that so i'll take 10" done deal..

"what about the car?"

dad says " 5 grand"

" ok we can do that"

and then my dad says " and i'm keeping the car"

the one boss says " we cant do that"

dad says " no deal"

guy relents and says we gotta send them they title and my dad was ok with that.

You gotta play hard ball with insurance. they will cling to every last penny. it wasn't your choice to get wiped out by a bus, dont let them make you the victim twice.

Same here except I would have said, "if you were my BROTHER"

Scary thing being in a big accident like this.

Glad you are ok.

All true above, remain unemotional about money and car. Hold out for your best deal. bad as it is, it is thier JOB to hose you as best they can.

Be sure to mention that the driver intentionally sped up and intended to hit you. Say it over and over and over and over and over.

One more thing not mentioned, If thier insurance company is paying for a rental, ask for the biggest, safest, 4 door sedan they have... To match the quality of your big safe sedan. If it costs them $75 per day until they pay you, usually they will "come up" a quicker looking at a 30-45 day rental via delay, delay, delay.

Again, most important thing, brother, is that you are safe.

Be safe.

I had a car that had a highly modified rebuilt engine. Some one wrecked it.

I bought it back and eventually found a car that had a perfect body. I swapped over the engine and other performance parts.

A body shop parted out the wrecked body.

I ended up with a much better car. It did take some labor on my part.

Several years latter I sold it for a high price for someone who wanted exactly what I had built. 7 years latter it's parked in front of my house! It was still in excellent condition. He was in town visiting some people who lived across the street.

Point is it can have a happy ending.

Awesome news!

Still having trouble piecing together the accident? You merged, the bus sped up and hit you? Or you cut off the bus that sped up and you got tagged? The confusing thing to me is how the bus had the balls to speed up against the power of yours???

Regardless, glad it all worked out.

Two lanes merging into one. My lanes was the merging lane and was near the end before both lanes meet. I'm along side the bus, and their were 2 cars behind the bus so I sped up a full car length (still along side bus) so that he can see my blinkers and understand my intentions to merge into the same lane he was in. I then noticed a pick up truck about 5 cars in front as we were going over the I-95 overpass . I started merging while I was still a full car in front of him and notice the bus headlights gotten brighter. My first thought was to speed up but now that pick up truck was in font of me and couldn't at that moment I felt the bump at the rear

I could've not use my blinkers instead just cut him off putting the driver at risk of crashing into the rails which would probably send the bus into the ditch but silly me for thinking that he'd be nice enough to just let me in. They teach you to share the road at driving school. Your theory of lights getting bright when closing onto a object is off.

As most of you may have recalled I lost my first MM to an accident a few months back about 3 weeks after completing the eaton swap on it. Thankfully there are some great members on this forum. Thankfully I was able to find and purchase my 2nd MM. Thanks to Louis in MD for giving me the opportunity to buy his car. Special Thanks to Marty and his crew at MO's Speed shop for working with me, literally day & night with the remote tuning getting the car dialed in for the Madness to come. Marty! Can't thank you enough... the car runs GREAT[emoji3]

so full of WIN!
Great chapter to a story gone bad, for just a month
Marty - this 'remote tune' practice has really taken off - helpful way to support the hobby
