View Full Version : OPINIONS NEEDED ABOUT JASPER ENGINES

The engine in my 2003 Marauder was poorly rebuilt in 2012 and after taking the engine back several times to the mechanics who for years worked on my parent's cars, nothing was serviced correctly. Since then, this shop went out of business after 40 years in Los Angeles and I can't go after them because of the obvious: they're out of business!
To make a long story short, the rebuilt lasted 2.5 years and got about 35-45 thousand miles. It lost power in two pistons about 1 and half months ago.
My issue: My new mechanics have tried to locate a used marauder engine but they have had no success for about a month and half. They recommended and other mechanics have recommended Jasper engines
Does anyone know if these engines are worth the investment? I read the reviews and I've read a lot of negative feedback.
If someone in the forum can answer this or recommend another idea to find an engine. I'm losing patience and I might end up selling the car. I don't want to.

We've used jasper engines and transmissions in my shops before. I have more trust in a Jasper than in a junkyard unit.
Might want to remind your mechanic to widen his used engine search to include aviators and mach1's if he has not already. and check car-part.com yourself to help source a junkyard engine nearby.

99-04 Cobra
There was no 99-04 Mark VIII.
2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator (long block is identical to the Marauder)
2003-2004 Mustang Mach 1 (long block is identical to the Marauder if it came out of a Automatic Trans version)
1999-2001 Mustang SVT Cobra (slightly different intake cams and 6 bolt crank will require 6 bolt flywheel but will still work)
2003-2004 Mustang SVT Cobra (compression is much lower the rest of the 4v motors and will run like crap if it doesn't have boost)
I know a lot of people that have bought a Jasper rebuilt motor and it worked out well for them.
If the heads are okay and it's just the internals you could go with MMR Modular Mustang Racing which is located in Camarillo, CA, they do rebuilds on customer supplied shortblocks or could even buy one of their built shortblocks, either way both options would be under $3k or so depending on options.

;) Sorry :alone: 93-?? Mark 8 http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/cto/5022253867.html
Why wouldn't this 4.6 DOHC work  Of course you have to switch the MM specific stuff and have the MM heads freshened etc.
I guess it depends on what is wrong/blew up on his motor and his $$ situation.
I do agree, since he is in CA why not go MMR long or short block

Would a 2008 Mustang GT engine work? I want to convert to a manual transmission. I have access to a 62K miles motor and manual transmission cheap.

Never had a Jasper engine, but I had a Jasper trans w/o any problems.

Because MMR's reputation is not-so-good these days. CA engine builders and customers complaints are on the rise. Notice I did not push another supplier. I am simply sharing a warning to the man looking for a solution. There are better choices in southern and northern Cali.

Is your goal to replace the motor with a best condition used motor and stop?
Or will your budget afford a performance/mod motor replacement?
Respectfully, the experienced members (I am not one of them - just trying to help) here need to know your goal/s to best respond.
