Been thinking of owning one for many years now and just wondered if anyone out there in Marauderland has/had one. If you have pictures post them up. :)

Define street rod.

Then define rat rod.

I would call the 32 ford a hot rod. Paint, chrome, fit & finish, interior and lots of new parts are all very important to a hot rod. A rat rod is a hodge podge of boneyard parts pieced together to make a 1 of kind machine. fit finish chrome paint unimportant. they rattle & shake and a lot faster than they look. interiors are generally such when it rains while your out in it no big deal ! The couple I work for had one. Have to try to look back to find pics. Thiers was titled as a 29 Desoto. rat rodded in late 60's so much fun to drive. That's how I see it. Most likely many definitions

I have plenty of hot rods but I do not think any of them fit into the categories you defined.

In PA, "Street Rods" are listed with "Reconstructed" or "Specially Constructed" Motor Vehicles : "Street Rod" = model year of 1948 or older, that has been materially altered or modified. There's that '32 Coupe, right there.

I don't think there is an actual MV category for "Hot Rod," but IMO a Hot Rod has to have performance mods that make it "HOT." (obviously) - cars with blowers sticking up through the hoods, dual quad carbs, ladder bars, etc. A Hot Rod has to be FAST ; a Street Rod can be more show and less go, IMO.

The stuff I've seen called "RAT RODS" seem to be interesting-looking cars with exaggerated, intentionally bad cosmetics - much like Goth Girls ;)
Lots of primer and / or flat black rattle-can paint jobs, etc.
"Eastwood" has a satin black paint they're selling now for the "Rat Rod" look, and a flat clearcoat that you apply RIGHT OVER light rust to permanently seal in that "Barn Find" look, lol.

I could see guys doing a "Rat Rod" project if they want to get into restoration but, for whatever reason, don't want to deal with lacquer paint, metal flake, custom pleated naugahyde, chrome can-openers etc.

Personally I'd go for a 60's Cadillac Hearse in satin black, with the tallest Weiand blower i could find. (Anybody remember Dr. Shock ? :) )
