I made a deal on this; it'll be the new gear hauler for my band because the Caprice (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=97974) wasn't big enough. I'll be picking it up Monday and doing the title transfer Tuesday.

It's a '94 Eddie Bauer Aerostar with the 4.0. 170k claimed miles, but the original (and malfunctioning) digital dash replaced with a higher-mileage (yet still functioning) one. Almost everything works. The two major inop features are the tape player, and the fact that it only blows heat and (cold) A/C through the defrost and rear vents. It was a Florida car and undercoated when new, so it's pretty much rock solid underneath with only minor rust on the body. I need to source a pair of 14" Ranger aluminum wheels so I have a matched set all the way around.

Oh yeah, the best part is that just like the Caprice, I only paid $600.

I wonder if a 4.6 with an Eaton will fit? You and Zack could have the battle of the sleepers.

Congratulations on your new minivan!!!! ....said nobody ever! :D

I wonder if a 4.6 with an Eaton will fit? You and Zack could have the battle of the sleepers. I'd love to try, except me building it would probably require me to use Zack as my Phone-A-Friend several times. This thing is certainly solid enough to warrant a build...

Reminds me of these two gems. Oh man, I forgot about those!

:rofl:God you go from one ugly car to the next. I see one of these in your future. :P:D Hope all your gear fits in the van. Rock on!:) Yeah, this is uglier than the Caprice in terms of body lines - but it's structurally sound and lacks the cancer the Caprice had. Can't wait for the neighbors to see this thing. They'll positively hate it.

I don't think you're allowed to be in a band and drive a minivan...unless the band is a barbershop quartet...

Good god those things are awful. Thank god they all rotted away long ago up here in MN, I would kill myself if I had to work on them. The last one I ever remember even touching was a late 80's 3.0 5-speed.

Adam,
I've got one that I bought for $100 ten years ago.
Same colors but tan bumpers.
4.0 AWD loaded w/ leather.
4 snow tires in winter and it's unstoppable.
Body is toast but mechanicly still very sound.
Still serves well as a winter beater and all around hauler,
(ladders, sofas, fridges, scrap, etc) and towing.;)
They even have an online club.

BTW:
have you hit Thompson lately?

That's one hell of an endorsement. Hope mine is as faithfully dependable as yours as been.

Haven't been to Thompson at all this year. The last few times I've gone to run, I've had issues with the staging lanes. Most notably, they've been letting filthy cars and trucks (the country-style mud trucks) show up and get the track completely dirty, and it turns into a coal rolling contest. I probably will just wait for D42 to reopen - they've been putting a ton of money into it and it's gonna be beautiful.

Mmmm Dragway42. If your up for the drive quaker motorsports park in Salem is a nice track. It's actually the same length drive for me to get to Salem as it is for D42. I'll have to check it out.

Van pictures!

1992 Ford Aerostar
extended body w/Eddie Bauer trim
RWD, 4.0L, autotragic
digital dash, OE stereo + graphic equalizer
rear A/C and stereo controls
power mirrors, dual power lumbar
digital dash w/tach and MPG computer
Florida van w/undercoating = solid underneath & minimal body rust

The bad:
-rear liftgate has two small vents with heavy metal mesh covering them, and a rubber flap covering them. The guy had dogs and he wanted them to have a little ventilation.
-rear bumper cover is gone
-gauge cluster was replaced with a junkyard unit; while the mileage is estimated to be 170k, it currently reads 300k

Ignore the boarded-up house across the street. It caught on fire.

Race?

I still need at least 6 and the hit.

LOL

Cool buy. The air vent issue might be a check valve. I had that with my Econo box.

With the 3.55 gear in the rear, it actually moves out okay, so I'll give you 6.

I'm 99% sure that the air vent issue is a vacuum line; just need to see which one has failed.

I haven't seen one of these buckets in years and that thing is in amazing condition. I used to see these all the time and I was shocked when I learned that they were RWD. Essentially the Ford version of GM's Astro/Safari. I love the digital dash. It looks like the one I had on my 94 Caprice 9C1 but without the tach.

This thing runs remarkably well and is returning a fine 24.4mpg on 70/30% highway/city driving.

Once I can take some time to take apart the front end and figure out what the mystery clunking is, it'll be rock solid and ready to take the band on the road.
