Congrats on your new purchase. Also, nice choice on the color if I don't say so myself. Now the real fun begins. This site is loaded with so much info, and good people to go along with it. Hope that smile doesn't get wiped off so soon. I've had my ***** eating grin since November of 03. Have fun.

I live in Taxachusetts. I'll have to pay a 5% sales tax on the 28K ($1400.00) when I register this baby and then a yearly town excise tax ( $25.00 per thousand of book value) yearly.
A small tax to pay for this beautiful auto. She will be pampered and cherished.

You are absolutely correct, they're everywhere - plus, I hate the new styling.
There isn't a car on the road that I have lusted for other than the MM. The Mercedes line ? Ugh. Ferrari Maranello, well...I'd have to give that some thought. Those are beautiful.
If I were to buy another BMW it would be either an 1987 M6 or 1987 M5. Both were beautiful, bad-a## autos.

What a deal. In Virginia, the sales tax is 4.5% ('til next year when it goes to 5.5% courtesy of our lawmakers in Richmond). The county personal property tax here is $3.70 per 100 (that's $37.00 per thousand). Enjoy your good fortune. Taxaginia is gaining all around.

Well, I guess I can no longer complain about paying the sales tax in Illinois. I paided a one time 6.25% of sales amount and then only plate renewals every year. It did cost me over $200 for title transfer and registration.
I choose to get a "Vanity" plate, so I pay slightly more per renewal, but oh well. Maybe this is why IL is in such financial straights?!?

The property tax in Smithtown, Long Island is approximately $125.00 per hundred assessed valuation. Sales tax is 8.75%. That $37.00 per thousand is a bargin.

Can't be $125.00 per hundred!!!! That would mean paying $35,000 tax on a $28,000 vehicle. Everyone on Long Island would be walking or waiting in line for the L.I.R.R.
I don't doubt taxes in Suffolk County are high but that is extortion. Check numbers.

I meant realestate tax. Tax on your home not the Marauder. The only vehicle tax we have is the 8.75 percent + the cost of the license plates.

So if the book value is 30K, you have to pay an annual fee of $750.00? YIKES!!!

The "book" value goes down every year with the age of the car. Example - I just paid $50.00 excise tax to the town for my 1994 Chevy Blazer. Book value was $2000.00
