Amazing how much these cars have appreciated in value over the years.

No Kidding.
I found recently that a co worker had a 68 - 1/2 Mustang GT 428 SCJ Drag Pack 4 speed car from high school, sitting in the garage needing restored. He had paid ~$3600 as he could remember, running and driving well.
It had t-tops cut out of the roof and weird plaid sewn right over mint seats! 70's stuff. Not rotted or crashed, but scaly underneath.
Turned out that every number still matched - distributor, carb, rear end 4.30L tag and all.
I had 2 guys beating down his door with $20k within a week, not running.
It will cost easy $40-50k to fully restore, to 100%.

My transmission guy had some high school Mopars sitting - a 68 GTX hemi 4 speed and a 70 Superbird 440 / six pak 4 speed. That was outside, on grass, rotted really bad, interior blistered, came with 2 factory quarter panels - he got $90k for the bird, then used some of that cash to get the GTX driving again, and got like $60k for it.
Bought retirement property in Florida.
He had paid a steep $8500 for the Superbird in 1985, and hardly drove it before it rotted on his lawn.
He said he knew it would pay off.
I wish I had that foresight!!

I have to insure my 1970 Boss 302 for $ 87,000 --- I paid $ 3200 for it new.
I insure my '69 Shelby GT-500 for $ 150,000 -- I paid $ 3500 for it in 1972, during the first gas crisis. Owners and dealers were dumping "gas guzzlers". Can't imagine what some of those discarded cars would be worth today.
