Curious as to members thoughts on which if any heat shield should be used or turned in another direction. I know they don't really do much if anything on our cars. More of a space filler or bling like the ones from I think DR had offered with that carbon fiber metco tube. I wish I could find one f them.
(1) When I bought my Marauder it had a sort of hybrid JLT/K & N CAI and I didn't like the black air tube nor the heat shield as seen here

(2) Got a silverbirch air tube and blue JLT filter to go with cam covers and a silicone coupler and the black plastic heat shield as seen here

(3) Changed black plastic heat shield to polished aluminum

(4) Last option would be no heat shield, just blue filter..No pic
Sig pic below, not pic of no shield

I don't think any heat shield does much, so whatever floats your boat.

I have found no difference in dyno numbers with or without. I like just the filter look personally.

I know they don't do anything, it's just a matter of preference. Just experimenting with "the look". Might try the filter alone look when I have a moment.

Either of the first plastic covers work. I'm not a fan of the aluminum one, it doesn't really match anything else in the engine bay.

I actually like the first shield with the blue filter. I hate the stainless look. No shield would be a good look too.

Picture number 2 looks good. Make the filter the same color as the cam covers. No stainless!

You can change the color of the air filter without changing the filter. Search for "auto air filter prefilter". All you need is the filter measurements.

I like my blue filter. Will be taking off the polished aluminum heat shield. Will go with none or if I use the jlt black plastic one, I'll turn it do it is on bottom and sort if supports the maf assembly etc.

whitey did a test on this (and home made ram air stuff) - posted a slight IAT drop with a shielded JLT
http://moddedmarauders.net/showthread.php?1451-Ram-air-intake/page3
" Stick with the JLT but improve on it's heat shield coverage."
"The heat shield makes a 2 to 4° drop in iats from ambient temps. As I sit with the ram air tube ran to the jlt filter, temps drop a hell of a lot faster once I take off, but sitting in the staging lanes I see iats of 110+"
After seeing my IAT sitting still, I'd like to keep some heat from the fans from blowing right into the filter.
Monitor your IAT with / without shield....

aluminum one is off and jlt one back on (2nd pic from my OP) and put my constant tension clamps on. I'm not monitoring anything..too many other things to do than worry about a couple degrees..I'm not bracket racing. Appreciate all the feedback, suggestions though

Yup, the air tube needs to be black also.

Silver air tube is staying, might some day paint it satin black with satin clear to match the black plastic in the area
