Hey guys, when i was detailing my car last evening, i notice i have about a quarter sized spot on my rear rim that the clearcoat appears to be peeling from the wheel  Would this be a warranty item, or would they just say its wear and tear. I know how im being treated with my paint issues, hopefully this wont be an issue, but i guess i'll find out on monday when my car goes to have the rear diff cover resealed. Any info would be great so im prepared for a good comeback if the dealer refuses.

I'd say any decent dealer would make it a warranty item. If they give you a hassle, show them the ones available on ebay for $250 and get them to pick one of those up for you.

Depending on your dealership, milage, and warranty dates....I would think yes, it should be covered. Afterall, it is a finished surface just as the paint on the car. And the paint is covered.

I had a Lightning that had the same problem, the clearcoat coming off. They hesitated at first, saying the cleaning products may have caused it, but just stick to your gun and tell them you baby the car and this should not happen. They sent all 4 of my wheels to a wheel repair shop, and they came back looking better that the factory!
Good luck!

It's a warranty item. I used to work for a wheel company and any number of things at the manufacturing level can cause the paint to come off; bad wheel prep (there is a pre-treat process for aluminum), dirty wheel, bad paint, and poor paint cure. It could even be porosity that blew out of the aluminum itself, thus lifting the paint. Even if the wheel got hit by a small piece of road debris which could have chipped the paint down to bare metal you shouldn't loose a quarter sized spot of paint because there are impact and adhesion specs the paint has to perform to.

I had a spot about the size of a dime on each of my front wheels....It ended up being adhesive from a sticker that was once there??
Try a little lighter fluid or mineral sririts......You may be surprised!! ;)
