Often the thought comes across my mind.....Had Bullitt been filmed around 2003....Does anyone think they would have used a Black Marauder in place of a Black Charger? - How cool would that have been......

Cool yes but I wouldn't want to see it crash and burn at the end of the chase scene

Can't stop the signal...

Marauder would be to slow.

I doubt it.

Really?? - Back in the day I had a 69 Charger 383 4 speed & like the Marauder it wasn't quick on the draw, but had plenty of top end......

It'd be cool, but probably not.

The sound effects in the movie are so terrible that a Marauder would have to have straight pipes with glasspaks.

If the topic is of trivia, How many times (or filmed shots) do they pass the VW bug on the hills of SF? I believe they also pass a Lemans on several occasions.

Gee - I would have thought as Marauder fans, it would have been a no brainer.... I really think the only draw back is the automatic.......

The cars coming from the same brand, that is Ford, would work against it. Technically the '67 Mustang had to be modified for it to handle the task, likewise a 03/04 Marauder. A revised calibration (tune, both engine and tranny), a set of 4:10's, a reworked exhaust and maybe a different driveshaft. It would be a nice match-up, if the Mustang chosen, an '03 five-O or GT was close to stock.

Cheers.

LOL....I remember that VW.
They do pass it several times.
IIRC it gets a mean doorslapper as they come around a corner....or was that Magnum Force with Clint's LTD 2 door?

Charger slams passenger side into a wall on corner, loses 5th hubcap ;)
68 Lemans, white, was passed in start, 68 GTO, med blue, was passed rounding corner don hill, so many of similar cars then, hard to say they are same cars or not.

The easiest to pick apart in movies, is anything car related,it's been a pet peeve of mine for decades.

Exactly. I don't know if anybody saw the Need for Speed movie, but in almost every action scene, you can clearly see the same red '98-'02 Grand Marquis.

Either Dukes of Hazzard or the Fall Guy can't remember which, they would show a red Ford pick-up speeding along then when the accident or jump occurred it magically turned into a red Chevy. Like we wouldn't notice that.

I lived in SF, and had some Aussies in town for business, after a few libations we found a taxi driver (mean old codger) that took us on the Bullit Run in a newer crown Vic taxi. We had to pay $200.00 and agree to pay + any damage.

We caught air in a bunch of places and bounced through the scenes. Old guy was a helluva driver. It was awesome! The Aussies still fondly recall that night.

A remake of the Bullitt Chase Scene was done in 2013 with a Mustang 5.0 and a new Black Charger. Same green Volkswagen in the scenes..... different ending. Personally, the '68 Charger R/T is my all time favorite and wouldn't trade for an updated model.

I'm old enough to have seen this movie in a theater. Our stomachs jumped during the chase scenes.

Ah - I see I'm dating myself but I'd put my $$$ on Bill Hickman picking the Marauder. He and Paul Genge (the shot gun man) would fit perfect in that leather interior given their ages in that movie.....Its not like they would chose a tuner Honda...Besides Hickman was driving that Squire that was following James Dean in that famous wreck. I'd say he was a Ford man.....

No. They would have waited two years and used a Charger SRT8...

Another great San Francisco chase:

-Huxk-gURco

It was a VW Bus that got doorslapped at the 3:14 minute mark by Clint's 2 door LTD.
Imagine what that VW bus would be worth now!!

Imagine taking that many hard hits in a newer car. There would be plastic parts hanging off of it and scattered all over the road. Not to mention airbags. The Ford LTD was a tank with real bumpers.

And, we were caught off guard. We never expected something like that especially in a big city.

Aside from the cool movie scenes presented here in this thread, I just realized I have the movie on blueray from a Christmas gift.... looked at it once but as usual, missed these points....surely will go back and replay for some fun watching again.........and like said here already, unless the MM was upgraded, it would have been a boat in the scenes---that's why I feel those cars were surely improved for the movie.........

Please don't forget the French Connection, and the 7-up's, both had great chase scenes.

No doubt!
Friends of my parents had a 1971-1972 FORD LTD 2 door....it was HUGE.
The doors were the heaviest, longest doors I've ever seen on a sedan!
If you tried to open them in today's parking lots you would crush in the side of the Honda next to you.

The original Bullet Mustang was a modified 390 FE big block with heavily modified suspension to handle all those jumps.

BTW: I've never heard a 390 sound so good!...:bows:

Was should have been an SRT8 Charger, and dark green Mustang, but pretty good remake!

As a Pontiac fan, can't forget The Duke trashing a sweet, no decal, Brewster Green 73 T/A (if a super duty 455, the most desirable to own)

I bought a new LTD Brougham in 1972. Had to sell my 68 Cyclone GT fastback because my wife just couldn't drive a four speed.

Doors were huge on any full size 2 dr car back then.

I really wanted a 72 Merc, but I couldn't afford the extra $700 cost.

"The car (actually, 2 of them)was 1973 Trans-Am, 455 automatic trans. It was totally stock, even with a complete stock exhaust. Most of the engine sound effects were lifted from the Steve McQueen film 'Bullitt'. This is most noticeable in the scenes driving through the alley. There is even a 'homage' to Bullitt where a motorcyclist lays down his bike to prevent from being hit by the protagonist's car. Same scene was in Bullitt."

This From a movie database of McQ

cool! It is also fully unmarked - no decals or emblems, like Steve's GT

Anyone remember which movie had the hopped up LEO get the unfinished souped up car from garage, chasing, saying "I'll get you boy, cause my top end is un-limited!", then he crashes it?
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, or Vanishing Point?

FWIW, Bullitt is playing on PBS (at least in Philly) now.
