Hey all,
I am in the middle of changing my trans filter for the first time. New filter is in, pan is clean, but when I dropped the pan I found a plastic yellow mushroom shaped part in the fluid. Not sure where it goes.

Any help?
thanks,

It goes nowhere, toss it. It covered the dipstick hole at the factory and they just push it in when they install the dipstick.

So I made a few mistakes...

First, I did not check the trans fluid level first. The car is still leak free with 14k on the clock, so I figured it would be right from the factory.

I removed the pan, replaced the filter, captured most of the fluid, except for what i wiped off my hands, the parts, and a little from the old filter. I captured about 3-3/4 quarts. I added 4 quarts and checked the level, hot after a short ride.

It's barely reading the minimum. Do I need another half quart or so to get it to mid hash marks? Or is the minimum ok?

A trans guy that did many police fleets told me to run the 4r70w slightly over full, he said the worst thing you could do is run it low.

Thanks. I'll give it a little more tomorrow and get it up to the top of the hash marks.

Make sure you check the fluid level at operating temperature

I guess I was fortunate to find it, but I paid out the A$$. It was a nice find. But a couple weeks ago I found one with 2300 miles not for sale. Ahh, but no Trilogy.

Mine's up to 14k now so no longer a "cream puff".

I change the fluid in the pan via drainplug every other oil change.

If original rubber gasket is intact and good reuse it. Always use Mercon V!

I OEM pan gasket is a rubber / steel combination, made to be reused.
